Did He Wait To Long

When someone waits for someone, then they start feeling it's wasted time, not realizing it's who they want, it's just going to take time, but for some they wait to long

He pulls into the driveway
House all dark, even shadows aren’t creeping
Unlocking the door, no wagging tail greets him
No smell from the kitchen filling the air

Flipping the switch from the nearby lamp
Rays of light, verifying the silence
Of no other human sound
Down the hallway he imagines
What he has found before
Candles lit, covers pulled back
His love laying there waiting
With a gleam in her eye
But not this time
Yes, she is lying there
All still, cuddled beside her
The body of the wagging tail
He whispers her name
No movement still
As he reaches for her
Heart beating, mind racing
Has he lost the love of his life
Had he waited too long
Sitting on the side of the bed
He touches her face, a head rises, a tail wags
He licks the face of his owner
But no movement still
He realizes her breathing is way to swallow
He panics, dialing the phone
People invade his house
Hours later he touches the face
Of someone he thought he lost
But just in the moment of time
He saved her, from death’s grip
He embraces her, never to let her go again
He didn’t see the signs, she was
Giving up, thinking, believing, it was
All wasted time

The mystery of it makes me swallow my shallow breath. Sometimes waiting is wasted time, other times it's not.
