Gifts of Mercy

Dark days,
As the Storm of Life struck like a phantom,
Sweeping aside the strength,
Blowing away the hopes,
Of a Dreamer
Once strong, confident and proud!

Resolve hardened by years of poverty,
Education and hard work,
Preparations for survival,
Renown in glory years,
Were no match
To the stealth and fury of the Storm of Life!

Pleas to the Divine,
For compassion, for consideration
Of past fine deeds for lesser brethren,
Went unheard; or so it seems.
Or the Master is accounting
The unsaid sins of the Dreamer

Helpless, heart bleeds
For a beloved guardian in the ICU of a far country,
For a sick brother pleading to be healed in a far country,
For an unemployed soul mate‘s struggles to care for helpless innocents.
And longing filled the days
To commune with supportive ancestors resting in eternal peace!

Down on his knees with nowhere to go,
For mercy, he solemnly begged.
A stray dog wagging its tail in friendship and gratitude,
Small birds chirping by the window, rousing him in his sleep;
And a radiant smile of a newborn child,
The responses the Divine gave.

The subtle revelations of the divine are in common things too easy to miss, unless we take a moment to open ourselves to their energy and power. Then the universe of truth and love opens itself like a flower. Thanks for reminding me that we have to be as little child to know it.

As I walked into the sparsely wooded area beyond our garage one morning, a fawn jumped up from its bed and trotted away. "Oh, thank You, thank You, Lord," I cried, for it was one of "Gifts of Mercy" that lifted my burdened heart.
This is a poem rich with treasures of truth. It is so hard when we are being torn apart, and such a miracle of love when He shows us the glimpses of Himself that meet our needs.
Thank you for this great poem. Connie

Hello Regino,

The God Who gives mercy, also shields us in the storms of life, so He gave us His Only Son as His ultimate gift of Love.

Very great, beautiful poetry, Regino, the greatest and toughest questions of life. Sometimes we can only be still, and listen to God. He tells us that he is the I am, the final arbiter of life, but that he listens to us too. I am sure he knows your poem, and is pleased with you even though without his eye into the future, his answers can seem mysterious. May he bless those you care about...Jerry

I can feel the depth of your prayers, so profoundly expressed in each line, every word speaks of truth, of pain, of longing and finally, hope. Let that radiant smile serve as a lamp that constantly burns and give light to the path of the Dreamer. You moved me to tears with the honesty and beauty of your verses.

Love,
Sheri
