Voices of Need

by Patricia Hilliard — Read all 9 poems by Patricia Hilliard

Can you hear the voices calling?

Sunday, January 5, 2020

Poem Artwork

If all the voices of the world could be heard,

there would not be one word

calling out for the suffering of war,

nor pleading for a time to starve.

No voice would request that the young should die,

nor argue the need of a greedy few.

No one would want to make a child cry,

without a heart full of rue.

Yet the voices of the world cannot be heard

by those who hold title and deed to the globe.

The suffering continues and spreads like a plague.

No innocence is sheltered by the judge’s robe.

Soon comes the day

when the voices of the world will speak of hope and common need

for there is no problem that cannot be solved,

if we silence the voice of insatiable greed.

Being fair and sharing is what it is all about. It is the only way that we can exist together, so many of us, on this planet we have abused so much. Your words make one think about the consequences of greedy action.
