Dragonfly

‘You also will defend
You also will offend’.

Sitting in a meditation pool thinking about how it is that we are all one. I concluded that if all is one then, conversely, every one must be all. And, that if this is true then there is nothing to fear in the world other than fear itself. I realized that when we fear we usually respond to defend and that it is this very act of unconscious defense that validates and promotes violence in the world. If, instead of defending we consciously choose to suffer the consequences of non-action, are we not then, by this very action, recognizing that our immortality cannot be subjected to a body and is not this recognition perhaps the greatest gift that we can bestow on our fellow man. It is a lonely commitment to personal growth by 'laying a gift on the alter of one's own awareness'. I thereby decided that, in the future, should I be presented with the opportunity to ‘non-action’ I will answer the call of wisdom and let it be... just then however, as I was concluding my lofty commitment, I was distracted by a dragonfly who came to test my resolve...

Watched it hover & dip
Hover & dip.

With each dip a flick of its tail
Deliberate splash onto a lady’s hair.

Hover & dip
The lady unaware.

Drew attention for many to see
Hover & dip.

The lady’s man flicked it away
Came to play with me instead.

Buzzed me repeatedly
Felt its winged breath.

Closer now
A symphony of buzzing breath.

Closer still, attack & recede, attack & recede
In my face! Never touching.

Its challenge bare
Shut my mouth tight to protect.

Buzzed once more & most gently kissed my cheek
See! See! Its voice declared.

‘You also will defend

Your introduction was very thoughtful and interesting. I certainly agree with you. People toss out challenging quips all the time that push our buttons. If we acknowledge those quips with a defensive reply we are only inviting more of the same--and is the quickest way to start an argument in a no-win situaton. Nice poem to emphasize your philosophy

There is a dragonfly that visits me each time I go out and read in the sun on the deck. It is very large and, a little scary but only because of my preconditioning. I do appreciate your perspective here, Tom. Thank you for sharing it. Love and peace to you,

Brilliant Tom! It is a lonely commitment, but not so lonely with kindred spirits around us reminding Not Alone, All One..

A great poem describing our instinctive, raw nature...

A Dragon Fly, is a very beautiful creature. It is very good luck/karma, to behold one. I was at a pool myself this past Sunday, and I counted 22 of them all around us. It was quite beautiful. Thank you for sharing this lovely poem.
