Old flames don't burn out, they smolder

The firmness of youth amiss
retreating still the taste, the will,
Budding flowers lasting hours,
A busy bee so young, so free.

Traces of faces shrouded in mist,
Tokens in time, etched in hearts mind,
An emotional freight train eager with pain
Now quite sure; I squandered her!

The heart breaks loves toll takes
Those tender years now silent yet dear,
Was it pemauture, was I insecure,
Her heart in hand, strugling to understand.

Why now do I see, forfitting love no mercy,
She, the opitimy of fine, a pearl before swine,
Sweet Suzy Q God knows what I took from you,
I give eye tooth, one day in the springtime of our youth.
I

This write can stir the reader into their own memories of long lost loves or high school sweethearts...
AHhhhh! love was just so easy then...and then as we grew, we somehow made it complex. If we could just grasp the spirit of such, way back when, and compare...and realize... no one would ever want to grow up! We'd all hold on to our Susie Q's and Johnny R's! HA!
Thought-provoking write...
Thanks for the memory- booster!
Enjoyed!
Love and Peace~

This is a work of art, so beautiful. Would we recapture that year if we could, or choose to drink a vintage wine?

A lovely poem H, full of longing and regrets. Put any regrets behind you. Life is so short, a blip in time. Grasp it and take everything from it. blessings, Theresa.

The older we get the more our heart reminds our minds of the lost loves of our lifes and the lost opportunities that we left behind either through stupidity or fate. This work captures those thoughts so well.
