A Halloween Fantasy

Was it a fantasy, or did I really have a conversation with a mummy on the day before Halloween?

The day before Halloween

I went to a history Museum:

They were showing Egyptian mummies there

And I thought I’d like to see’em.

I marveled at the artifacts

Retrieved from ancient tombs

And felt a sense of mystery

As I wandered through those rooms.

Just before I reached the exit

Now alone and running late,

I saw a single mummy

In a coffin quite ornate

I fond that I was drawn to it

In a way I can’t explain

Then I heard from it a whisper

That was audible and plain!

Perhaps I might have dreamt it,

But that mummy spoke to me

And we had a conversation

About his history.

When he’d finished all the details

He bound me to secrecy

So I gave an undertaking

That the facts would stay with me.

Just before I turned to leave him

I told him of Halloween

And invited him to a party,

But I sensed he wasn’t keen.

“I am afraid I cannot go,” he said,

I hope you will not mind:

You see, my friend, if I relax

I’ll probably unwind!”

A great poem for Halloween. Next time perhaps you should ask him for some lucky numbers to win the lottery. Heeeheee!

Hope you carry with you bandages new,
Or at least maybe some super sticky glue,
For if the mummy came undone,
There would be nothing there to see,
So as I did with your poem herein, have fun...ED

LOL. I laugh as soon as I se your name. Decide I'm not going to be caught out with the punch line. Yet I always do.
Always subtle and hilarious.
Bloody clever...

Ahhh so cute and clever, Patrick and a great write for Halloween. Your rhyme and meter are perfect and the content was captivating.
Take care,
