I Hold My Head Up High Today

Poem Artwork

I hold my head up high today,
When morning sun shines its golden rays
into my bedroom where I lay.
I leap from my bed into the world,
Amazing journeys I venture bold.

I hold my head up high today,
With every single prayer I pray
For my heart to lead the way.
To view the world as a child,
Never stifled, always wild.

I hold my head up high today,
For reasons I find hard to sway,
My view is always bright and gay.
I still believe that I could fly,
When others have stopped asking why.

I hold my head up high today,
Though my spirits may tatter and fray.
When others go while I choose to stay.
Doomed traditions I shan't reprise,
No excuses, no compromise.

I hold my head up high today,
Though sometimes lost in a stack of hay,
To my heart, forever true , I stay.
At times, the world, it may be cold,
I have faith I can always hold.

I hold my head up high today,
For all my mistakes I must pay,
I would not have it another way.
For though my skin is bare of gold,
I manage to retain my soul.
