It's not hard to make oneself happy. It can happen.
He was an angry old man sitting on his self-made throne, overanalyzing the solution to happiness. May God save his soul!
I walked by this old man the other day, and noticed a blankness in his eyes, in his desperate attempt to find happiness, he did not know that happiness is within himself.
He only saw happiness as being possible for others, but not for himself: The little children around him they were happy and clapping hands, singing songs. The old man he was angry at them for being happy.
"Why are you kids so happy?" He asked, wondering why he did not feel the same vibes.
The children looked at him in bewilderment, wondering what he meant by that. The children were happy just being happy. They were innocent and hold no hatred in their hearts. Sadly, they could not understand the old man.
I explained to the old man about happiness and where he could find it. I explained to him that happiness is a gift from God. It comes to us in an imaginary gift box, tagged with our own name, and this gift box is with us through our lives. It can be opened and reopened as many times in life as we want to allow its happiness to flow into our souls. When our souls are opened to allow happiness to flow in, we would then be able to receive happiness from others.
I tried to explain all this to this old man; but strangely, he got angry with me as well, so I just left him alone! - A miserable old man whose brain would not connect to his heart; and whose heart would not connect to his soul!
What a pitiful life to live in with Anger as his constant companion! It is slowly killing his soul!
SAD. ANGER DOESN'T ALLOW THE 'JOY' OF GOD TO RESONATE WITHIN US. FOR IN LIFE HAPPINESS DEPENDS UPON 'HAPPENINGS' AND WHAT'S GOING ON IN OUR LIVES. SO, HAPPINESS GOES AND COMES. BUT THE 'JOY OF GOD' NEVER, EVER LEAVES! FOR...WEEPING(THE LACK OF HAPPINESS) DOES ENDURE FOR A NIGHT BUT 'JOY' ALWAYS COMES IN THE MORNING! I HOPE THAT THE POOR ANGRY OLD MAN WILL DONE DAY FIND THE 'JOY OF GOD' TO REPLACE THE HAPPINESS THAT HE DOESN'T HAVE. THANKS FOR THE SHARING, SANDIE. Anger, too much of it, yes, will cause the immune system to lose its strength, one will get sick in some form, and possible die! Sure, just like it could cause someone to harm someone. It killed his soul for sure!

There are a lot of angry old men, I see them all the time. They get mad at others even unprovoked. For whatever the reason that angered them when they were young, or because of PTSD they should never take out their angers on others. PTSD is not an excuse to bully others just because of how you feel yourself. I have to disagree with Ron.
I like the way you say in your poem about that gift box of happiness from God, and how we can open it any time we want. No one can be made happy unless the person opens his/her heart to receive happiness. You are right about that!
Yes, you are right! And you have given some very good examples on why some people are bitter and angry. I know they are not angry with others, but appear so most of the time. They are just angry and disappointed with the world.
However, there are really some who are just born angry. My father-in-law's nickname was a "Grumpy Old Man". LOL!!! He has not been in a war or anywhere near wars. My mother-in-law was the NICEST person you can ever meet, and she would give him and everyone the world, but my father-in-law was angry all the time. It's just the way he speaks. Some people are just born angry.
Your story is quite clear. A lot is expected of a man. In his youth, a man often explores the limits and gets into trouble that stays with him the rest of his life. Many angry old men have suffered great loss. PTSD can come from sources other than from the trauma of war. But warriors experience probably the most dramatic thing that a young man will ever face and most find it impossible to describe what killing somebody who they weren't sure was a combatant (often women and children) can do to a man. Or seeing one of their comrades killed in front of them.
When you see a man on a park bench, you don't know what he's been through. That takes time and understanding. We owe that to someone before we judge them.
In "A Touch of Your Presence" are words that would inspire, encourage and strengthen one's soul when faced with challenges and difficulties and to know the awesomeness of God's power.
