Keeping it real when living with better-than-thou brothers, who claim to be the best lovers, calling the kettle black - thinking that - they’re all that, is like
Being Jesus’ wife. I’m mean, damn, ain’t nobody perfect like that, and you’re a man like any other, my husband and my soul brother, father of my children, the love of my life.
I’m the wife that you promised to obey, to cherish and to honor in every way, and yet you treat me like some Bitch off the street, as if I wasn’t the one to clip the nails off your feet, bust the blackheads on your face and shed the tears I shed while your mind’s out in space
Somewhere, when you should be here - not out there - with me and the children, concentrating on making a living in the here and now, don’t nobody need that much schooling anyhow, just a job and a house would bring me some peace, give my fears some release, from constant worry and dread.
I may be crazy in the head, I know, I scream and shout sometimes, going with the flow of my emotions: they carry me away, my intuition tells me the time of day, I know the truth behind your words, my suspicions play out in the real world.
Yes, I know you grew up in a stable household, and yes, I’m now the black sheep of the family fold, but my daddy loves me and my siblings do too, they’ve got my back, that much is true .
Your sisters may be ‘successful’, if you can call it that, one’s marriage is dead and the other lives with a cat.
Education and money ain’t everything, The material things of life are important to me, but, you see, more important than that, is my children’s safety.
You love to bring up my ‘broken past’, can you blame my anger, when I get in that ass? You’ve never known want or had a need that wasn’t met! Your family’s stability made you what you are today, but anyway, I love your mama like she was my mama too; in fact, she’s the main reason that I’m still even with you.
If push comes to shove I can raise these kids alone, welfare and child support will make a happy home. All the time you spend on the Internet is better spent alone, and the next time I threaten to smash your computer? Consider it a promise, written in stone.
Because, what I need, you’re apparently unable to give: all of you, always present, when I need you, here, where you live. My ‘craziness’ comes from living on the run, forced to grow up too early, crying tears in the sun. You promised me I would be the Only One, the Love of Your Life, Your Soul-mate, your wife.
But here we are, mired in strife, wishing upon a star.
You’re the father of my children and a ‘Good Man’ it’s true , but if you can’t give me what I need inside, then, baby, I can’t stay with you.
Wow I am in awe of such realness and no you are not crazy but just keeping it real. Our wants and desires as you have stated here is just fine and well deserved and should be to live in this world. Kudos to you a fine fellow poet.
Yes Sir brother, you laid it down, you hit those rymes, like you own this town. So right you are, I can relate to that...I hope that when the brother read this, he be sitting down, because I know he will reap up, start to frown, but remember he should "if two people click" then it's all good...

sometimes vows are made in blindness... finding one person to mirror you as a soul mate is a tricky thing....for you are constantly growing and changing and so are they...so how can you expect someone to mirror you for a life time? anyone but you, that is
Mark..As usual with your work I have to read and reread it..Remarkable job of switching into a women's head and feeling her emotions..Your writing "HITS" me with raw emotion..

Being a different drummer never is a lost cause but never one sought after according to the human emotions this world works with. This is powerful I think not crazy just a strand of a seeker to that which leads to value. Powerful and straight from heart.

This is a remarkable work, Mark.
Enjoyed the read.
Mesmerizing, Mark, and an excellent, excellent write. You got into the woman's head and brought her emotions to the surface powerfully and vividly. Well done!
Powerful dynamic write, Mark! After reading this one and Prototypical Male, I'm left in total awe! I love the rant, I love the flow, I love how you wrote from a woman's perspective! Captivating write!
Knowing that a black man apparently wrote OH, SO I'M CRAZY, RIGHT? from the perspective of a black woman is just one of the more powerful aspects of this poem. That he was able to displace himself so completely and place himself in this personna reveals an extraordinarily high level of creative concentration. If the write is a factual one taken from the writer's life, it reveals the depth of a soul connection that again allowed him to abandon his own perspective in favor of the partner's, despite the tone of cynical irony. Much more love here worth salvaging than is immediately apparent in these lines. A work of emotional strength, creative intelligence, and spiritual genius from a heart and soul that shine true love and beauty.

You have just got to know that by the time it gets to this point, there is no way to make things right. No matter what changes could be made, they would be too little, too late. Two people living in the same place, born of different dreams, focused on different realities. The poison already drunk, the only antidote is to move apart or die. Great write Mark, and the cadence of this piece kept me wrapped into it through the end.
Take care,
Sherry
This is a rough ride down the razor. Civil unrest at the dinner table followed by class war in the bedroom. Been there done that. You've gotten into some woman's head that's fo' sho'! I've heard this song and dance before and I wasn't the one doing the talking. Powerfully done and you kept in the rhyme with good flow, Bro. Mark. ~~Nordette
A search for the ghost of a chorus girl chorine haunting a costume designer’s Manhattan apartment leads to an encounter with an eccentric, mischievous witch with the ability to send folks back through time…in this case, the 1919 Ziegfeld Follies.
Love is universal and not limited to the most perfect among us. In this collection of romantic short stories and poetry, love comes to those who are decidedly imperfect, who possess very real human flaws, scars, and challenges. Awaiting us as we are.
