ignorance is bliss; is it truly?
or is it an excuse to not to be . . .
not to be present . . . not be accountable,
not to be a part of the process–

whether it be shaping the solution,
or creating the problem.
a position is still a position I always say;

no matter if we do nothing
but stand around looking on,
we’ve still taken a position;

sorry, there’s no ground for neutrality here;

do we think just because we don’t pass
an opinion or lend a hand, we’ve Not
taken a position?

look again; think again,
for we have, and a big one at that.

doing nothing doesn’t get any of us off
the hook; the biggest mistake we can make
and the worst position in our lifetime that
we can ever take
is just sitting on the sidelines of life,
watching, brooding from within;

let’s get up and a take a position,
for I say, a position is still a position
even if we think we have no position.

by default of just being here, in this present
and wonderful cosmic universe of ours,
is a position.

so then actively complain; help build a habitat;
teach the next door neighbor’s child to fish, to sew,
to write a poem, to ice skate;

or,
go down and serve in our community soup kitchens
down the street,
and oh yes,
let us Not be afraid to step out of your comfort zones;
there’s nothing wrong with feeling uncomfortable;
that’s what gives us soul, grit, the whooah–realness! . . . releasing us from our self-centeredness, our me-itis.

so lend a hand,
even if we only have one hand,
serve someone a cup of Rosemary tea with it;
we’ve taken a position, a good one.

so lend an eye,
even if we only have one eye,
see for someone, helping them
cross the streets of life with it;
we’ve taken a position, a good one.

so lend a foot,
even if we only have one foot,
gather someone’s mail from the curb on it;
we’ve take a position, a good one at that.

free ourselves and we free others
in the process;

don’t waste our time
take a position
because a position
not to take a position
is still a position.

so why not make the one we
choose,
count for something.
