THE STRANGER THAT I DATED

I thought i knew him

he said we were more than just friends

together forever

i believed him

i'd been down too many dead ends

The road ahead looked brightly strewn

with neon glitter and renewed hope

but i never saw the noose he tied

around my words

and let them choke

He would listen

but he could not hear

he could see

not that i was blinded by fear

as i disguised my tear

behind a smile

and my lips bled a lie

that i was not hurt by his inaction

when all the while

i was forced into retraction

he gave me enough rope to hang myself

but i went fishing instead.

THE STRANGER THAT I LOVED

before i met him

i knew he'd hurt me

before i left him

i had loved him unconditionally

but he expected perfection

and i was broken

And for that crime

he has not spoken

more than a few syllables

And for all my foibles

i still love him

because i have not been

loved for myself

but judged by my cover

by a heartless lover

The stranger that i dated

became the stranger that i loved

And forever more will i endure

the pain of rejection

despite the arduous affection

of many other suitors

it just took one to destroy

any self esteem i had left to employ

I guess that is why it is said that "love hurts." Thank you for sharing, Andrea. Love and blessings to you,

Don't give your heart too quickly would be the lesson in this poem. This poem is engaging and interesting. Well done.

You sound so disheartened, disillusioned. Look to God for comfort and stand tall in the sun where you will find peace....

Be safe,
Karen
