MORNING THOUGHTS      

Random thoughts, incomplete sentences,

thus is my morning being. 

Mind functioning at its highest level, or perhaps at its lowest —

I’m not sure.

Is it paranoia or an acute sense of my environment

that opens the windows of my imagination

and the door to visions of things to be?

Those who see only that which they choose,

forsaking the reality that has been placed before them,

build their castles upon a foundation of faith

and proclaim their faith to be a virtue.

They are led willingly to the slaughter

with banners unfurled and songs of praise.

“Glory to God” is their cry.

Patriotism is their justification

as false prophets beat cadence to the march.

They bid you welcome unto their journey

into the jaws of pestilence, famine, war and death.

And the shadow of darkness they cast

falls upon us.

Bless them, Lord, for they know not.

Forgive them, Lord, for I cannot.
