Glaring at the telephone
cream colored plastic carved by tense,
twisting fingers
the looped cord dangles away
dangle away
in incredulity
tears are starting to stain
straining to comprehend the shock
the impact blows the wind away
lips shudder, gasping for stolen breaths
but the air runs thick,
stifling
the dark assailant enfolds from behind
lulling into madness the driven mind
the imagined hand cradles the swimming head
chill sweat beads
disbelief pulls desperately
clawing for solidity to balance
unstable perceptions
the room quakes and spins
beneath leaden feet
the floor rushes upwards rapidly
desire nearly overwhelms to writhe
down there
weeping
baying in grief for the self
though composure is collecting now,
sucking in the necessary breath
fine hair is smoothed from tear-bright eyes
as strength feebly asserts
dominance over terror and anguish
