The Mirror

A poem about letting go and forgiveness.

A brutal stronghold,

choking the life 

out of me.

My tormentor is gone...

but why am I still choking,

fighting for breath?

I glimpse a  mirror...

I see I am alone.

Why can't I breathe freely?

Why?

I study the mirror

and begin to see...

I am free... I am alone.

Why can't I breathe freely?

Why?

The answer is me...

I am the one who refuses 

to let go...

Let go of the past.

Let go of the pain.

A guiet peacefulness

descends over me.

I release. I forgive.

I let go.

Determined to be free...

aahhh... breathing freely.

I can love, hope and dream again.

Tears of relief and joy 

flood my face.

I study the mirror.

Anguish is gone.

Replaced by peace.

It is good when we release our fears and express them in a poem by looking in the mirror and seeing that we are free.
