A Tired Old Veteran Speaks
America, America I thank you for the ride
I write with solemn gratitude, you were always by my side.
You offered me a chance to serve when others walked away
And now I thank my lucky stars that’s what I have to say.
As anyone can plainly see I put my trust in freedom
That was good enough for our forebears
And it’s plenty good for me.
You changed my life without much strife
Now on the younger side of old
I ask for one last favor
Don’t need a waiver
Or so I have been told.
Let it be said after I’m dead
There’s not much room for squiggling
Mark my grave
As one who gave
Just make certain I’ve stopped wiggling.
Stamp on my coffin “Paid in Full:
No exchanges, no returns.”
There’s little left to say
Long may she live
Long may she give
God bless the USA.
Would hate to see that happen a few years after you croak. It needs to happen ASAP… we're all getting older.
Right now I'm not planning on a coffin and if I start feeling one coming on, I'll take a cough drop and stop it. Cough drops still work, don't they? Maybe, honey, Honey.
