A spooky story with a surprise ending. Written for my wife and our dogs... it's kind of like type casting.

A beautiful day of frolic and play,
walking Willie and Lady along the way.
Rin their master, a lover of dogs,
finds solace and comfort with them in the bogs.
Their play lasted longer than Rin was aware;
night fell upon them… to be anywhere but there.
The path seemed more narrow and darker than dark,
the dogs now they cower and stopped barking their bark.

  The willowy winds creep all through the night
and demons they plot their most dreadful of frights;
Clouds slowly scud cross the moon all aglow,
the eerie sight limns ghostly doom from below.
Nocturnal beasts bellow night's eerie cries
as fear now engulfs the chance passersby.
The nidus it cracks, as its hoard is released,
to swarm the unwary and begin their blood feast.

  Rin quickens their pace, but then a sudden stop
as bushes are rustled and a twig's heard to pop.
What looms ahead, behind and aside,
the danger is certain, who else may have died?
Willie he whimpers, Lady she whines,
Rin freezes in panic, for a safe berth she pines.
No glimmer of light, no star filled with hope,
no knight on a horse, is a hero nearby…? nope.

 She picks up her puppies, and slowly she strides;
hoping to distance herself from her plight.
The noises, they cluster, they near and increase,
the predator surrounds them she fears their decease.
Now running in terror her dogs bark in fear,
the marauder moves closer and ever so near.
Alas over taken their demise it is sure,
she screams as she turns… it’s her husband in fur.

Thanks for the comment Ron. Wasn't my intended ending but my thought it was funny and loved it so I left it.

"… Her husband in fur."? Letting my imagination run wild I would say that he is now something like a werewolf and therefore, very dangerous. I think it would be far better for him to be her savior from all of her fears of the darkness." For example, He is just wearing a fur coat.

Perhaps it is just your intention to leave us wondering what the real outcome is.

Ron
