The Vampire's Perfect Rose

Poem Artwork

Accept This Rose

will you accept this rose, my dear?

I've been saving it for many a year

saved it for the one I can control,

you'll live forever, never grow old

never mind the blood on its petals

nor the chains of heavy metal

will you accept this ancient bloom

I raised it in my darkened tomb

take a sniff it smells like death

eternal life will bring you wealth

wealth and all you could desire

command the beasts and the fire

I will show you wonders, never seen

life and death and all states between

accept this rose, it waits for you

covered in droplets of bloody dew

if you decline, you will die anyway

so take my rose to live another day

Certainly an offer I can't refuse… Promise of riches and another day of life.

But do I have to make you my wife? ;-)

Perhaps I missed your Halloween vision but when I read this I thought of all the promises made by the so-called "fashion" industry that make all sorts of promises that can't be fulfilled and that can even drive some to acts of self-hatred. I'm thinking here of the young girls who starve themselves hoping to fit in and those who contemplate suicide because they have acne. Yes, I've heard of these things! I suppose when one thinks about it, these are the true horrors of "the blood rose." The ones that do, and should, haunt us all.
