When the Raven Strikes (Dedicated to Carlie Brucia,Age 11, Murdered in Florida)

by Antoinette Kopperfield — Read all 219 poems by Antoinette Kopperfield

Dedicated to Carlie Brucia, age 11, Murdered in Florida. A stranger to me, though impacted by her death.

Saturday, February 7, 2004

Cold, dark night release me
From the chains of murder
For I am about to become
A mere seed on the plate of death

I cry for my mother, who knows not
My fate-left in the wrenching hands
Of a sick man who deceives me
And cripples my blissful existence

I do not wish to leave my family now…
Though I shall rise to the heavens
And tower over other innocent children
As an angel and a light keeper

I shall sing them jubilant songs
While I sit in God’s wondrous garden
Until he commands my heavenly wings
To fly when the raven strikes…

Pray with me now- oh little children of love
For I am your guardian of protection
When sad men have forgotten
It is God…who remains their judge
