The way you described it, that Thanksgiving feast contained way more fowl that I recall from those annual thanksgivings where aunts and uncles, some farmers, got together in a very similar manner and ate precisely at noon. If the turkey wasn't big enough, it was supplemented by ham or another turkey. In the north, we had pumpkin pie rather than sweet potato pie although we had sweet potatoes along with mashed potatoes. Only to eat again, about 6 PM after an afternoon of talk, card playing, kids playing outside. The only work on that day was that the cows had to be milked in their breath warm.
Quite an ironic ending where work became quite important that time of year that the traditional meal had to be changed. And even more ironic, the landowner made enough profit to buy a machine to put your family out of work.
