Operation Red Phone (Short Story) - 2/1/2022 12:11:54 PM
Because you have introduced us to these seven individuals so well, I for one, would want to read to the end, so I hope it does continue. For one thing, any time a story begins from seven different angles (like the movie ‘Crash’ or any other film that does this weaving participants’ lives) I find myself wanting to get to know them lots more, and the introduction here delivers that invite. Also, “ITS IN THE WATER’” has a curiosity magnitude of plus 10x. I enjoy the definers, those details like ‘old librarian,’ ‘modest egg,’ ‘soft sweater,’ ‘labyrinth streets,’ ‘purple drop.’ One place needs a different word, “…fireman is peeled to the television,” — I think you mean ‘glued to the television,’ I hope you write more on this, I want to know what will ‘change the world for the good.’ ~~ djl
Sixty Pink Flamingos (Short Story) - 2/1/2022 11:49:44 AM
Exquisite! You have a striking knack for unusual words, some may even be of your invention, and I so like that*. I do it, too :) This is a twice-read-through to get the essence of it, and a curiosity. In this one short vignette so much is happening. Instant fondness for ‘Lady,’ and profuse bravo for her flamingoman. Great imagination and full of energy and resurgence. Love it* ~~ djl
The Inventor (Short Story) - 1/30/2022 9:22:44 PM
I like your writing style. It is brightly brimming with originality and imagination. This one makes me think you could write a splurge about anything at all. As your bio states, you have been writing for a nice, long time* happythankyoumoreplease ~~ djl
The Diva (Short Story) - 1/30/2022 9:18:25 PM
So very clever, playful, and witty use of words. Love that Godiva has both God and diva. I like the freedom this contains, it sashes along with confectionary perfection. ~~ djl

The Cormorant Feather (Short Story) - 1/28/2021 9:17:11 AM
Notwithstanding the cormorant's ungainly gait, it's a bird that (some believe) symbolizes taking action, bravery, and imagination. There is beauty in Cormorant feathers. In the sunlight each of them reflects a uniquely distinctive iridescence. Much like each of us I'm thinking. All the same, but so remarkably different in how we view and express life. Peace... rlc
The Cormorant Feather (Short Story) - 1/25/2021 9:34:08 AM
You have obviously included in this brief introduction to a story the clichéd flying saucer encounter and given a very strong hint that the daughter, Jilly may have been abducted and then given. The giving of the Cormorant feather would indicate some Native American influence.
Interested in seeing where you going with this.
Ron
The Cormorant Feather (Short Story) - 1/22/2021 3:56:59 AM
Bird feathers are a precious spiritual gift, as are the words of your story, to be continued.
Cora Ling (Short Story) - 12/11/2020 11:37:51 AM

Operation Red Phone (Short Story) - 10/16/2020 8:59:33 AM
I have spotted a number of incongruencies that would need to be corrected for this to be respected by science fiction readers. Also a number of simple errors that a good editor could improve.
There is a certain anticipation set up by going around the world and giving just a little bit of information about characters and what they are doing, but I don't see anything connecting at all in this very short, "to be continued," story. In other words, nothing is happening here to cause anyone concern. What would be overwhelming making me want to read to the finish?
Ron
Operation Red Phone (Short Story) - 10/14/2020 9:32:35 PM
Sounds to me the beginning of a good sci-fi story! I'm not sure what year or century this story is taking place, but it seems to me the COVID virus still exists in this era. Need to read more.

A cute write. Wifey enjoys Godiva sometimes. We both consistently prefer Dove dark chocolate. Peace... r
The Diva (Short Story) - 1/5/2019 4:41:46 AM
Godiva chocolates are my favorites! They're heavenly!
The Diva (Short Story) - 1/4/2019 9:12:31 AM
By using God and Diva this chocolate company has created a great marketing ploy. From gifts, recently, I have been able to taste these chocolates. I find them to be overpriced and contain very little chocolate... Mostly filler. I've acquired a taste for bitter, dark "baker's" chocolate. Actually more flavorful and the most healthy.
Ron
The Diva (Short Story) - 1/4/2019 5:29:44 AM
Devilishly good fun in this story. I love Godiva chocolates, have ever since I lived in Belgium many years ago, where I landed my very first job teaching 8th grade (1967!)
The Inventor (Short Story) - 1/4/2019 4:09:53 AM
You've given me an idea! I'm thinking a blow dryer could be used to pop corn...just kidding.
The Inventor (Short Story) - 1/3/2019 10:30:24 AM
A likely story. ;-) One of the many stories surrounding George Foreman. I didn't check, but I believe George has eight sons all named George. How is that for confusion? George loves cars and is a preacher by profession. Has had to do other things, like box and promote, to earn money for his large family, car collection, and church (in that order?)
Did you know that the Weed Wacker was invented right here in Houston where our St. Augustine grass sends out runners 12 inches in a week across sidewalks in an unsightly manner that any oil-rich Houstonian abhors. Fortunately, the weedeater or whatever other name it was called, edges the sidewalk and lawn beautifully. When Sears and other retail outlets started selling his invention, the guy sued and won.
Unfortunately, I had a front ender on my classic 73 Monte Carlo. Our shop foreman told me that he knew a guy, John Foreman, George's cousin, who could get a front end clip for me. John was a nice guy and very helpful. He located a 73 clip, but it fell off the forklift when they brought it down from storage and damaged it. And then, he delivered a 74 clip to the shop doing the repair. At my insistence, he removed the 74 clip and found me a 73 that he found out in a field somewhere, but still usable. My car was never the same. But I paid him and we parted ways amicably.

What a delightful story, almost as scrumptious as the story.
When I Die (Poetry) - 8/17/2026 1:50:48 PM
Young, eternal Rose, without doubt I most certainly believe Christ’s promise is greater than that. Death isn’t the end, but a doorway to the beautiful white shores of what continues.
When I Die (Poetry) - 7/6/2026 2:26:16 PM
AS A CHRISTIAN, I BELIEVE THE WORD OF GOD. THOSE THAT DIE WILL SLEEP THE SLEEP OF DEATH, UNTIL HE COMES BACK AS PROMISED. THEN WE SHALL BE 'CHANGED' IN AN INSTANT! OUR MORTALITY WILL INSTANTLY CHANGE TO IMMORTALITY(1ST THESS 4:17-18) AND...DEPENDING ON OUR CHOICES DOWN HERE... WE WILL FACE ETERNAL PEACE OR ETERNAL DAMNATION...FOREVER MORE! When I Die (Poetry) - 6/18/2026 8:03:31 AM
When a rose dies, the flower fades and disintegrates into its basic elements. But every flower has seeds. The seeds become future rosebushes if they happen to land in the right soil and conditions to grow.
Likewise, humans, even when they are preserved like the Egyptians attempted with those of higher statue in the society, really only live on in their seed…their children who carry the same DNA and genes.
Those of us of a scientific mind, know that the universe recycles everything. All that we are made of regardless of how our bodies are dealt with after death, reused again and again over cycles of billions of years.
There is no evidence yet, that the spirit that is Mystic Rose will continue on…except in our children. I have no children. So my DNA will only be passed on by my brothers and sister.
Ron

To Rise Above The Fire (Poetry) - 2/23/2026 10:49:12 AM
You made me recall the bald eagle in North America. Almost gone when I spotted one feeding off a calf that had been thrown out in the back 40 by a farmer after it died.
It was a cold windy January day when I saw the eagle high in a tree. I called the DNR to tell them I had spotted him.
Bald eagles have overcome the fire of their cracked eggs by DDT and are now commonly seen by me and others all across this great land again.
Ron
To Rise Above The Fire (Poetry) - 2/22/2026 8:21:42 AM
Your poem rises with the same lift and luminosity as the eagle you describe. I love how you frame ascent not as escape, but as a movement toward clarity — toward that higher vantage where light steadies the soul. The imagery is bold and beautifully cinematic: “biting off the night,” “aeroponic wings of love,” “stars that shine asunder.” Each line feels like a step upward through fire into vision.
A joy to read.

Thinking of nothing but snow this weekend and this is the peaceful snow one hopes for!
Winter Calm (Poetry) - 1/19/2026 2:41:09 PM
Beautifully written. Brought me memories of when I was mesmerized by just watching the snow fall silently, and sometimes, relentlessly until the landscape took on an entirely different, much softer, view than it had before. What a transforming beauty snow can be!

Winter Calm (Poetry) - 1/19/2026 1:22:21 PM

Porky Pig And Daffy Duck (Poetry) - 12/19/2025 12:15:31 PM

Heavenly Harps (Poetry) - 11/21/2025 12:51:54 PM
I have dreams like that where I levitate but they are usually a trip or fall that's about to become disastrous. But doesn't. I wake up in the wheelchair watching a dull movie or reading a dull poem
Oh, if that fantasy you have written would come true! There have been depictions showing that that busful existence would be utterly boring compared to life on earth.
Ron
Heavenly Harps (Poetry) - 11/21/2025 2:59:55 AM
"We become summer in the winter of our life." Simply beautiful.
Mystical Serenity (Poetry) - 11/17/2025 8:39:25 AM
It is no mistake why your fantasies are filled with nature. When I think back on fanciful dreams. Nature always plays a large part because just being out in nature can be a wonderful, mystical experience.
I can muse right along with you as you describe fanciful thoughts.

The Color Of Love (Poetry) - 9/14/2025 11:29:50 AM
The color of love is whatever you make it to be. For the blind person from birth, it probably is nuances in music. Like the natural spectrum of colors by their vibration.
Come to think of it, Ecstasy would probably be most linked to ultraviolet.
Ron
The Color Of Love (Poetry) - 9/14/2025 7:54:03 AM
The emotions of love, not what they look like, but how they feel, how perceived, and expressed. The imagery is vivid: "heart pumping red" // crimson velvet", evoking both warming and passion as the true staple of love. Not easy to write a poem about love. I like your challenging question at the end. Well done.
Come To Me (Poetry) - 8/31/2025 5:15:23 PM

Fairies and Fairy Dust !!! (Poetry) - 8/28/2025 3:11:04 PM
I just love this prose, a work of art! This piece captivates with vivid imagery and a lyrical tone that weaves fantasy and wonder into every line. The creative expression feels both delicate and powerful, a world of pure magic.
Fairies and Fairy Dust !!! (Poetry) - 8/25/2025 11:56:08 AM
So full of descriptive magic that carries the poem beyond the ordinary into the world of fairies.
I couldn't help but notice that the AI generated fairy that only fit your description to a T, but had a faint resemblance in her face of none other than Taylor Swift.

Ancient Winds Of Time (Poetry) - 8/16/2025 7:58:49 AM
Indeed nature is truly a spiritual force that you beautifully portray here in this poem. The forest is not just a setting but a living presence. Phrases such as "soft as the ancient winds of time and "loyal and faithful mother earth" evokes a sense of sacred reality in this ephemeral world of physicality. A rich, eloquent nature poem.

Come To Me (Poetry) - 5/29/2025 9:36:21 AM
The craftsmanship and the glory of your poem is this: with only 20 different letters or so, you have taken me on a journey, unlike any other, and shown me a landscape I had never seen before, one that is filled with joy, sensitivity, fun, and romance. They say that life is unfair but you have shown there is beauty and love everywhere. You turn the ordinary into the extraordinary.

Inside Sofia's Heart, The Rose (Poetry) - 5/4/2025 1:54:35 PM
This Sophia is some gal. A rose (without thorns) in the desert, in the next stanza, a jewel in the desert light, finally "blooming without rain" a rarity that can only happen in the desert. Such a unique way of describing the fidelity of love and the happiness that can grow.

My Gujurat My Jesus (Poetry) - 4/10/2025 2:40:41 PM
As you wrote I could see you were caught up in the cult of Jesus and hoping for him to come back and make the world great again like it was in his time.
That's a mighty strong torch you are putting under him in those last lines. More to heat him up than to light him up like a Roman candle.

Margaret And The Tiffany Hat (Poetry) - 4/2/2025 1:32:46 PM
I thoroughly enjoyed the extravagance and humor you put into this poem with a great rhyme as well… Kudos!
But I have seen hats like that. The kind that birds would find nice to nest in. Of all places but the Black church. Where women have little going for them with their menial jobs and absent husbands except to dress up on Sunday and challenge one another with the most outrageous hats you'll ever see, anywhere.

You prove again and again that few poems surpass the eloquence of brevity and simplicity. What a classy poem. What a classy lady.
Wolves (Poetry) - 3/15/2025 11:20:40 AM
Wolves are the source of all of our dog companions. They are pack animals and work together to hunt and live. They are not the danger we make them. We are finding out more and more about their behavior that is so good for the ecosystems they thrive in.
Thank you for your poem that dispels all the folklore about wolves being evil and deadly.

The rose could be construed as part of the poetry of God's earth, being the Queen of flowers, she speaks of love silently, in a language known only to the heart, but, as the Creator planned it, she can also draw blood in defense of herself. Peace... rlc

Silent Echoes (Poetry) - 1/12/2025 8:35:28 AM
There is nothing finer in this life than when two people meld together like you have so beautifully portrayed in your poem. With the idea of echoes being remembrance of something that happened before that may never happen again.
You reminded me of the few times on the dance floor when the two of us were in sync with the music and each other to the point where we never wanted the music to stop. Some of these were with strangers the moment before. Like the time at the singles get together in the Jack Tarr Hotel in San Francisco when we danced to Hey Jude. She ran off after to the restroom, never to return, probably because she was falling in love with me and afraid that she would abandon her fiancé.

When She Smiles (Poetry) - 12/27/2024 12:37:09 PM
She's an energizer bunny, that's for sure. I've known many like her but they have all either gone or are manure.
Young folks have no time for that as they follow their action heroes. They text their BBFs 100 times a day and shower them with Hallmark type videos that money can buy. Along with special Christmas emojis by the score. Sitting by the fire writing Christmas cards; alas, no more.
Ron
Walking The Tightrope (Poetry) - 12/23/2024 2:15:02 PM
Almost made me cry. So romantic and so poignant at the end.
My experience was so much different. I drove a Bangladeshi doctoral student the Fourth of July weekend of 1976 to Hamilton, Canada, to pick up his cousin who had rejected marriage to a rich old man and was disowned. Visiting with her uncle in Hamilton.
We were stopped at the border by the Canadian officials because he had only a single entry and if he went into Canada he would not have been able to come back to the states.
So he waited at Niagara Falls while I drove to Hamilton, picked her up and came back with the whole Uncle's family and a picnic on a curried carp that was very good actually.
When She Smiles (Poetry) - 12/21/2024 7:33:52 AM

Any time I see an exceptionally-unique word, term, phrase, I love highlighting it. Here it is ‘dis-enmesh,’ an encompassing concept. Two favorite lines in this compelling style you’ve chosen, are: “sit still with your emptiness praying that” and “fresh as the ocean in God’s special vat” ~~ Radiant piece of poetry, Mystic. :) ~~ djl

You Are Enough Just As You Are (Poetry) - 11/9/2024 9:00:28 AM
Through self-acceptance and accountability, seeing ourselves in the mirror becomes a lot more than seeing a physical reflection. For the wise seeker, it is a process by which we can confront our inner self. For some this is not an easy task. True and honest growth begins with the willingness to see ourselves as we truly are, not who we think we are. Look in the mirror. That's your competition. The only person you should try and be better than, is the person you were yesterday. Thank you for sharing this self-revelation. rlc

Let The Sun Smile Down (Poetry) - 8/14/2024 8:49:10 AM
One of my favorite songs, written by George Harrison, but was best presented at Woodstock by Richie Havens… Here Comes the Sun among many references to the sun in poetry like yours and song. The sun also has become the icon for CBS Sunday Morning that I watch whenever I can.
As for your reference to rest. I take time out mid day like a mad Englishman and go out in the midday sun to recline, shield my eyes, and soak up the blazing sun's rays for about 10 minutes to soak up some vitamin D and very gradually develop a protective tan. In case I ever have to use it. The respite from my busy schedule is also appreciated.
Unfortunately, while the sun provides about the same energy to the earth every year, the atmosphere soaks up more of this energy in the form of heat and all of us are suffering during summertime in the temperate zones where the consequences of not paying attention to our sun. Burning fossil fuels to replace its power instead of continuing to use it more.

The Little Cast Away (Poetry) - 7/24/2024 11:20:14 AM
Drought play can be a little rough at times. But according to your poem it was fun for that little castaway. The image was perfect for the story. It looked like he was looking at something underwater in the pool. Or, as the poem suggests, he was fooling his friends into thinking that he was drowned.
I was much older, a teenager with great lung capacity, when I would swim down to the drain in the swimming pool and just lie there, relaxing… People up above would get worried when I didn't come back up. But when I did it was with a smile that they were worried.

I had a real life fairy friend!! She wore fairy wings and painted faries..when she died; the nurse and i found the biggest pair of wings she had on her wall and dressed her in her amazing fairy attire...Adrielle Rose was her name and she said she jumped off another planet to come to earth to help her Mother an artist! Adrielle was magical! Fairies are very very very real!
Fairies Don't Belong In Jars (Poetry) - 7/10/2024 12:15:24 PM
I must confess to doing just that in my childhood. But I grew up and soon knew that fireflies need to fly free in their nightly mating rituals just like we humans do. Who are we to capture nature and make it ours for our purposes when it dies in our hands?
Your poem is a great cry to tell the world the smallest creatures need to be protected and allowed to be free or we will suffer the consequences like we do when we are captured and confined.

To Where You Are (Poetry) - 6/29/2024 11:10:21 AM
Mystic, you have your ear to the chest in this achingly-gorgeous writing. The line that is beautifully haunting for me is: “inside my soul it’s you I crave” — Wow, is that a colossal seven words that grasp me by the throat. I marvel at your choice of words in ‘To Where You Are’, and it can be so universal in resonating with loss of other relationships to The Great Beyond. I’ve even wordlessly professed to wishing I could be ‘where my parents are,’ given the crush of society’s loss of consciousness. But surely you have chosen the most wrenching loss of all. You have captured love and loss exquisitely. Thank you ~~ djl

Take Me To The Water (Poetry) - 6/2/2024 10:16:59 AM
Water is our source of life. Our blood is very similar to the seawater of our origin when we found out how to breed out of the water and came ashore bringing our seawater with us in our blood.
Our search for another, as Carl Sagan elegantly stated, "small blue dot," is one of our greatest quests as we wonder about the star filled sky. Earth is blue from space because our rocky planet of mostly molten iron contains water. And much of the rock is limestone made up of the very sea shells you wrote about in your poem.
Yes, we are drawn to the ocean and you: proclaims that in spades.

THE COMPLEXITIES FOR ONE TO PERSEVERE IN THIS WORLD, ESPECIALLY FOR THE ABANDONED, CANNOT EASILY BE REVEALED. BUT, FOR SURE...WHEN ONE FOLLOWS 'HIS' LEAD TO REACH 'BEYOND THE VEIL' TO THAT PLACE OF PEACE AND STRENGTH...THE 'MIRACULOUS' IS FOUND AND THE LOVE OF GOD PREVAILS TAKING ONE THROUGH IT ALL. AMEN. THANKS FOR SHARING, MYSTIC. LOVE, BLESSSNGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

There is something special, indeed mystical about our beloved moon that it has inspired poets like you (amd me) down through the ages. Simply lovely.

Within a half-hour of the glorious colors of the setting sun, the rods in our retina take over from the colorful clones and give us only the blacks, grays and whites of the night. Transforming for those of us with a good night vision night into a wonderland of different slight, smells and sounds, especially during the summer when insects are in full glory and more active at night than during the day. The Luna moth, for example, easily thought of as a fairy.
Your poem reminds me of those wonderful warm nights where I enjoyed being alone and just observing, full moon or not. However, there was that one, below zero night, where I observed multicolored aurora borealis directly above, I guess something similar to what happened last week with the solar storm that led me to believe how ancients might have observed the same thing and made wonderful myths about it.
Finally, during my teen years, we had a Silverleaf Maple in our backyard. When a storm came up or in the middle of the night, those silver undersides of the leaves were very dramatic and I loved to see them.

It's been a very long time since I saw a Baltimore oriole. What a lovely bird. So glad you nurtured this one back into the air. I have large windows in the back and a bird feeder. So many times I hear a very loud thump! When a white wing or mourning dove gets one of my windows. It's amazing how they tend to fly off after stopping on the fence to shake off the shock.
Long time ago, I wrote a poem about a blue Jay that broke its neck on my window. Blue Jay Down

Such a sweet encounter with nature. Birds are remarkable (and resilient) it seems. Beautiful.

Acrostics are hard to pull off and still be lyrical. But fortunately, the subject of Love has so many splendored ways, that it is possible to make an acrostic love poem work.

A flow of poetic images that takes us through the experience of love and yet your word of warning is well taken: "Just don't ask too much," Love as it is should be more than enough!
Thirsty For Your Light (Poetry) - 4/19/2024 12:04:46 PM
Your poem illustrates how moonstruck you are. As a woman, your rhythm of life is governed by the motions of the moon. And I find the moon a welcome traveler with me when I'm out in the night without a light.
