Reminds me of my time in the hospital. I went fourteen days without a button to push. I could only call out into the hall and sometimes waited two hours for any assistance.
I might suggest that you change the word “handicapped.” Back in the 1980s, I ran into a woman tied to a tilted board wheelchair who was a advocate for the disabled. When I used the word, handicapped, she admonished me for using it because it was very derogatory, meaning, “Cap-in-hand.” The disabled community has basically tried to banish the word from common use. I have been paralyzed for 50 years. I went to school and worked the entire time except immediately after I was paralyzed, my surgeon took pity on me, and had all of my my rehabilitation care paid for by welfare (I had insurance, but he didn't bother to ask). When I see a disabled vet, or any disabled person for that matter, standing on a street corner with a hat out collecting money, I see a failure of society for not including that person in the working world where they could make a living instead of begging on the street.

Beautifully written for the lost grandchild. There was something fatally wrong with the poor child. Perhaps something hidden that would've come out during life. The demands of today's living require that every child be healthy and reasonably intelligent to be able to navigate all of the requirements that one must understand to live well. Let us hope that the next child is healthy and perfect.

This is a wonderful poem about the "Two Trees", I enjoyed reading it
today. There is a parable behind it all, one might be good and the other bad, we all have to choose which tree we will desire to eat
from. That is how life goes, I especially enjoyed your verses of the
poem "What is this Tree of Life that's blest thee, where other have
made their nest to be? Good write.
