It was truly an honor to read this book. This is the story of two young men kidnapped from Africa, what happens to them and what they had to go through. Strangely enough it reads like a real story. The research is phenomenal. As you read this piece you find yourself captured in time. It tells us about slavery and the horrors of it all. The story is well written and easy to understand. The characters are well developed. So much so that you even get to empathize with the captain of the slave ship Capt Hannibal. In him we see his struggles. We see the inner fight of doing his job and doing what he knows is right. We watch Manni grow up and how his life unfolds. Through Manni, we get to experience human spirituality as it is faced with a diversity of challenges. Though there are many sad times, this book is truly inspirational and exciting. There are many twists and turns. The book takes you through an emotional roller coaster and drops you off in places that you never expected. I give this book 5 stars and highly recommend it.

I was laughing until I got to the end. I certainly hope this isn't true and some poor guy got accused of something he didn't do.
My mother did most of her shopping in three catalogs: Sears, JCPenney, and Siegel. If she took us shopping, she made us stay in the car (Purgatory) until she returned, "Because you guys slow me down."

I was lucky. Dancing just came naturally until I had formal instruction from a former Arthur Murray instructor my senior year in high school. I am forever grateful for him telling us that we must dance slow hip to hip (and a little grind isn't bad either). But it was my mother, initiating "kissing" parties when my twin and I were in sixth grade, that got me connected to a cute blonde who was tough as nails. Oh yes, we had 45 RPM dances organized by girls, too. We were Presbyterian then, and dancing was prohibited. Somehow that didn't bother us at all. Elvis was everybody's favorite… Even my dad started playing rock 'n roll on the radio after we made him listen to it a lot.
I really enjoyed this one with its prompting of memories.

You are getting funnier. I only remember going to see Santa once at the center of our little town. I believe he gave me a bag of treats… Something the mall Santas never do. After that I went to second grade and Santa was no longer in the picture, just a myth that some kids believed in like it was the truth. Still mom and dad made sure that there was always something surprising under the tree on Christmas morning. We knew they worked hard to make it real for us, even though we knew they did it with satisfaction.

Since I was a twin, I learned how to share very early. Letting my brother read everything before I did, helped prevent his tantrum… Guess that's why he's so materialistic today. My memory of Sears and Roebuck catalogs was it they made good toilet paper in outhouses. While you were taking a dump, you could look at the pictures of ladies in underwear and you know what that meant.
As soon as my sister was old enough, Roger and I no longer had to wash dishes. My sister greatly resented that and insisted on getting first read on anything that came into the house. Sharing was my life in those days, but I didn't have to endure hand me downs thanks to that designer brand… JCPenneé. ;-)

And everybody left the party and drove home, most of the drivers, crocked. At least that's the way it was at our house. All that food helped absorb all the alcohol. What I remember most was how the colored lights reflected off the ice and snow. That's what made outdoor decorations magic.
As always, full of memories and enjoyable.

So much better to cut a tree. I thought he needed the pistol because he was stealing a tree from a farmer. ;-) The two squirrels were a real bonus. Makes my mouth water to think about the squirrels I shot and and mom cooked to perfection in my youth.
