I'm afraid I didn't have time to read your lengthy story this morning. I can only say you have a gift for writing family trauma the way it is often carried out down to, especially, pet names and family myths and secret expectations. At first it reminded me of Cinderella, but much more realistic. Your way with words is exceptional. And your creation of drama is superb.
I gather by the last line that you are inferring that Pumpkinguts was real. ;-)
