I think it's the woman who would not let go of the child's spirit to let it rest in peace. Sometimes the ones who are living need to let go. Great story/poem!

Your poem reads like one of those recurring, unsolvable bad dreams that are really hard to shake. It's really much better when you can pat by your side and a real angel settles in all warm and comforting.
