A very thorough and enlightening discussion of right and wrong. The focus seems to be on death. Death is inevitable for everyone. But it is distasteful for death to occur prematurely, especially if caused by others.
Every ethical system out there, especially the religious ones, are fatally flawed. Our justice system is no less flawed. Especially, since DNA analysis has uncovered so many incarcerated and on death row who didn't commit the crime.
I believe in situational ethics that would vary on individual cases. Sticking to a hard and fast rules when it comes to society determining life or death, is a recipe for failure.

We don't know how many serial killers there were in the 19th century. Many of them probably went undetected because no one reported the murders or there weren't law enforcement to investigate.
What is unique about the Jack the Ripper murders is that they occurred in London where there were many newspapers, law enforcement, eyewitnesses, and a populace eager to read about what was happening in the city every day. Also, of course, the fact that the killer was found.
It is quite amazing what rumor and speculation can do to create a suspect list. In this case, including some famous fellows. Although it has been widely used almost forever, eyewitness accounts are being overturned out by DNA analysis. Makes one wonder how many people were wrongly accused and convicted of crimes they didn't do.
I thoroughly enjoyed your long list of suspects in this unsolved case. In fact I was amazed that there were so many that they did include famous people like Lewis Carroll.

Thanks for digging these gems up. In spite of the grisly details, this is good evidence that diabolical crimes are not just happening now, but have been happening forever. It's only in the last century that their last words are more likely to be captured.
"French fries" really takes the cake!

I'll now remember the infamous last words uttered by James D. French: "French fries!" Sadly, for the horrendous crimes perpetrated on their victims, the list will continue to grow.
