I like 'honor everyone's traditions'
in our house when my lads were little we began with klompen by the door on 5 dec, had our gifts and stockings 25 dec and finalized the celebrations on 12th night.
in my K or 1 classroom children worked on a 'Christmas Around the World' book filled with lots of what people elsewhere do in THEIR neck of the woods. Depending upon the parents, often our last day party before the winter break was filled with foods and activities parents celebrated in their homes, or found in the books the children were bringing home.

We humans seem to have to have traditions and rituals to bond us together to our various cults of importance, or not. Christmas in our country, the United States, has grown into a much different tradition than it was early on when various immigrants brought their traditions to the New World and blended them with what was already here. So, there is much emphasis on our diversity in the ways we celebrate, just like you have expressed the way Europeans and Australians celebrate.
I participate in the good cheer, but I don't celebrate the holiday, and especially, its commercialism. Like most people, I take advantage of the time off to do what I like. That's the best part of any holiday--time off from work.

Good advice. I encourage everyone to write their story. Who knows how valuable it might be to the future. A few years ago, my mother wrote her story. She told the family not to publish it anywhere because it basically although she didn't say or write it, "was nobody else's business."
On the contrary, like you, I wrote and published my autobiography. And I wish I could read more autobiographies going back in history where the truth in many mysteries could be found. All of our lives count in the course of history. The more we get down on paper and transmit to the Internet, the better off we all will be.

Very interesting. I'm not a fan of Amazon for their monopolistic activities, so was unaware of this program. And, as I read, I got dizzy with all the promotional effort required. I'm not sure that getting people to vote or nominate because you have contacted them or befriended them has anything to do with the quality of your book. I recognize the value of promotion, but great books have a way of eventually reaching the people without having to be on the "hot" list.

It is wonderful that you have a graphic artist in your family.
I've done my own covers until my wonderful software became obsolete and I couldn't find replacements. So I hired a book cover artist. He only gave me one shot at a cover design and the two times that I used him, came up a bit short of my expectations (titles were too small in the space provided). So I got some new software that doesn't work as well as the old stuff but is acceptable and am doing my own covers again.
