Kids and their parents should appreciate "June Bear Adventures - The Missing Pies". Birgit and Roger Pratcher are a husband and wife team, whose books are always on the original and humorous side. Their new children's book is no exception. It's a tantalising story, and like most detective stories will make readers want to carry onto the end. It might be too lively for bedtime stories though!

The Christmas Mission Part I of II (Short Story) - 11/6/2016 8:49:12 AM
Your story starts out so poignantly with little AJ left without a mother and forced to travel with his before unknown aunt and uncle to a new, distant place. Your recounting of his problem with adjustment is beautifully presented, although I did detect a couple of errors in the first chapter or so that I didn't note and don't remember today.
It looks like AJ is very lucky, unlike so many children in this situation, to have a wonderful aunt and uncle that seem about to make the five-year-old believe in Santa. But then, you bring in the toys that appear in the middle of the night, the talking cat and fox and your story becomes a fantasy. While fantasies may or may not be more delightful to children, frankly I think the story would be better if you left the fantasy out. But that's just my opinion. I'm not an expert in how children react to fantasies. I looked at Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, the Wizard of Oz and other fanciful stories more as an adult, finding them full of lessons in life. I was one of those who didn't believe in Santa but accepted the presents under the tree my parents worked so hard to provide every Christmas. My brother and I knew where they were coming from and always looked at Santa Claus as merely an old man dressed up in a red suit giving out candy to the kids.

One way is to volunteer at a shelter. You can even organize a group of friends to help a shelter.
Excellent Suggestions! Our nation's many animal shelters are woefully understaffed, and vastly underfunded, and most of them truly welcome volunteers of all ages, and donations of money and supplies, no matter how small or large.

B&R This is a very good article. Your care and concern for the well-being for animals is sincere. You would think it's obvious if the heat affects humans, it must also affect animals. Still, many just don't stop to think. As an aside, a family is charged here in Canada with leaving their 90+ year old grandmother in a locked car! They're lucky she did not suffer adverse effects from overheating! So, it goes to show, sometimes people just don't stop to think. Anyway, this is a timely and excellent reminder.

The sad thing is that many discriminatory practices can be very hard to pinpoint, much less to prove. People who speak up are often ridiculed and their complaints trivailized by the media or fellow employees, or family members or...
Well...it's just tough to get people to see the problem sometimes, much less to actively try to find solutions or to change such pointless and destructive behaviors.
The reason I'm commenting tonight is that I read an article the other day and thought about this article of yours. It outlined a study that showed that everyone in the world is related. Seemed funny to me that anyone would actually need a scientific study to convince them that mankind is basically one big family, but there you are.
Anyway, I thought you also might enjoy the article, so I'll leave the link (I don't know how well this comments area handles links, so you might need to copy/paste the URL rather than just clicking on it). It's kind of long, but very fascinating. BTW, thanks for all of your fun comments on my pages. I always appreciate getting them, and they always make me smile! : )

It's amazing what sells wrestling now-a-days.
I remember the days when they wrestled in television studios, maybe 30 or 40 in the crowd, real rowdy, and the women were ugly, and the combatants were all fat, meaner than shit, and there was lot of blood.
Those were the good old days!
My favorite wrestler back then was Dusty Rhodes. That bionic elbow killed me.

Fear is a funny thing... once you enter into it it just kinda takes over... reminds me of the stew I got my whole family into, believing I had once heard the floorboards creekin when everyone was accounted for... EVERYONE was up in arms but, again, all we could find was an innocent-looking cat! But during the time that I had got EVERYONE believin my fear, I reckon my mother must have turned grey...!! Was swingin along with this "happy ever after" tail and totally blown away by the unexpected parting... this kinda rocked me almost as much as if darlin Slinky had been my own loss. But due, doubtless, to the headstart in life that your kindness gave him, he must have blessed beyond measure the hearth and home of his new family. And bless you, too, for having the open-handedness to let him go, rather than perhaps to enforce a new lifestyle upon him that he might not have coped with. I care for the feral cats in my neighborhood and I adore each of them. It is a difficult and rather sad life, but I do what I can to lighten their burden. It touches my heart everytime I look at them and see their healthy coats and bright shining eyes, knowing that although they will never be tamed nor will they ever trust humans, they have still been given a chance. Your Slinky is a beauty, I can understand how you fell in love with him.
