In your roundabout way, you are referring to, in this article, what is stated in the Constitution… "Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." Like you, I have noted that people in this country tend to be unhappy with negative hardwiring. They complain about the government and then go about it in ways that make the government worse for people.
The particular politician that you describe is none other then the president of the United States. His childish rants and restrictive solutions indicate a very negative mind set. One that cannot be healthy for our country. We should be guided by the five questions you raise at the end of your essay, not fear and anger.

There is certainly power and good vibrations (reminds me of the Beach Boys) in your article/story. Whenever I get out , not very often, I try to interact with people in a very positive way. They seem to enjoy that. When confronted with negative people, I either engage them and try to turn that negativity around using patience and trying to understand. Or, if it happens to be only a brief encounter, just ignore them because it takes time to cure a bad attitude.
You seem to have found the power to help others, and that's a gift.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. The world around us is filled with programming. It is easy, almost lazy, to let ourselves be programmed and then go along with the program for the rest of our lives. I recall being a rebel in my teens, unwilling to join high school cliques and stayed uncommitted to church and other influences bent on programming me. I enjoyed learning and was open to new things without prejudging them.
When I became paralyzed, I noticed that the programmed people were the first to abandon me because I didn't fit their ideal of what I should be anymore. It was a good lesson that I learned well. I remain optimistic even while there are serious problems that we, particularly the programmed consumers, are causing our world by unconscious behavior. Most of the great fears about danger everywhere is ridiculously overplayed and not true.

While I totally agree with news media generating sensationalism and preying upon fears, I try to separate the wheat from the chaff when digesting any type of news. I just can't go as far as dismissing the thoughts and plans of men having no effect, though I see your philosophy as a strong foundation to dilute the power of those hell-bent on doing harm in the name of ideology.

You certainly have a good point here. The news does generate sensationalism. The world is not what the news shows us; the world is much more calm and boring. I don't need Neville to figure that out.
But the news is not always negative. For example, there's been a lot of news about the Pope coming to the United States. When I heard that he was speaking before the Congress I wondered… If there is separation between church and state, why are we giving this Christian pontiff from an archaic church so much presence? Why isn't there disagreement like when Netanyahu spoke before Congress? So, I put the whole idea aside.
However, the news this morning carried the entire speech of the Pope and I listened very carefully. As I listened, he said very good things that resonated with me and will help our country now struggling between good and bad as though they are two sides of the same evil. I must thank the news for allowing me to be there, in person, when an historic speech was delivered to our country from a humble man of South American origin who now resides in a little country in the middle of Rome Italy. Pope Francis is a man of our time to be reckoned with and I'm certainly glad that the news brought me into his presence.

While I was reading this article (in the stories section) I noticed something that I believe firmly. The news always seeks out the most sensational, and often, tragic things that are happening in the world. This is done because people like to watch sensational things and the general good it's happening every day gets set aside. That's why I'm optimistic and quite concerned about those who believe that the news represents the way life really is and become fearful over things that don't ever affect them.
However, while I can affect my own condition by changing fear into positive action, I find that I'm totally unable to "cure someone" of their pain by my mental action.
Your article also contains a lot of repetition that begins to sound like preaching.

Interesting discussion. I've found that concepts are difficult to get across without images. For example, scientific discussions about abstract concepts that are all words become extremely difficult to understand… Lost in the words. Mathematics was developed to show, in very simple terms, very complex ideas. Perhaps the most famous of these concepts in mathematics is E = mc˛.
I taught rather technical courses. In order to teach the concepts involved, I would often come up with images in my mind and then draw them on the chalkboard or on overhead transparencies. The idea that a picture is worth 1000 words worked because my students were able to understand the concepts much better when I used illustrations of them in my presentations.
I haven't illustrated my novels… Perhaps I should.

I'm not sure who Bruce Lipton is, but I find that most blogs are not very good sources of information. Refereed articles in scientific journals, while difficult to read sometimes, are the best source.
Since BF Skinner, there has been a great deal of concern about behavior in the shaping of children's behavior by parents and peers, in your case, even while in the natal stage. One thing that tends to be overlooked by people overly concerned with behavior is the fact that survival genetics has been operating through countless generations in every individual and our genetics plays an immense part in how we will behave (survive) to create the next generation. Of course, there are many mutations in the process and that's why siblings often act quite differently. Most studies will say that siblings are treated differently depending upon their order of birth, etc.
When we overemphasize behavior and overlook the genetic heritage of each child, we really may be misunderstanding why a child ends up behaving the way he/she does. Maybe it's not someone's fault that a child becomes a criminal. Maybe it's a deep-seated genetic trait.
