Being my favorite genre, I love a good crime thriller mystery, I sat myself down looking forward to a good book. I was not disappointed! Taking place in San Francisco in the 1980's, "The Glass Alibi" begins around a financial swindle, illicit real estate deals, murder and the lovable private investigator, Nick Sloan, in a period of 72 hours involving a trio of women; Sharon, Elizabeth, and Annie. And, Betty, the missing character if you want to add a fourth. Along with them the author, John Burns, adds a mixture of other multi-faceted characters, including his secretary, Janet and a slew of petty criminals. The strong character descriptions provided by Burns is awesome, painting vivid details helping the reader to visualize the character in their mind's eye. Feeling you know the characters, or someone like them, is likely and learning as the story goes on what each of them are capable of is entertaining in and of itself. The location descriptions are just as strong, placing the reader there in the storyline feeling the very fog that's being written about, for example. The plot has as many twists and turns as a roller coaster with corrupt schemes. The side plots are gruesome, riveting, romantic and, in places, lighthearted and fun. "The Glass Alibi" keeps the reader on the edge of their seats trying to guess where the story is going to go next. John Burns does a wonderful job in the end tying up all the storylines into a nice neat bow that creates a great ending. This is my first John Burns book, but I am hoping it will not be my last as I would love to see a Nick Sloan series. Burns has a wonderful character in Sloan, along with Janet and Rita (his girlfriend) to start a bestselling series. I enjoyed his descriptive, well-written, easy writing style and can't wait to read more from him. "The Glass Alibi" could easily be made into a movie. This book is a definite five star and I highly recommend.

I find The Further Adventures of Pengey Penguin to be an
entertaining narrative resulting from a positive, unaffected imagination that quickly grasps the mind's eye, holds it tight and does not let go even when the last page of the book has been read.
I am sure children and adults alike will find much to like on the pages of The Further Adventures of Pengey Penguin. I like the Pengey series very much and am convinced teachers and parents will like it as well.

This is a great story about a little lost Soul who will not stop until he reaches his goal. This is the beginning of what promises to be a phenomenal series of children's books.
