As I started to read your tale I thought you were writing another kiddie's moral story. But this one is clearly a satire for adults.
Well written in a very good lesson for humans who think they have figured everything out and really haven't, no better than all the other animals and many ways, much worse.
Perhaps because you are a guest, there was no proper paragraphing making your story hard to read for these aging eyes.

I don't know if this is historical fiction or not. Certainly Hawaii has a rich history of rivalry and war among the ruling families. But the significance of castration by one of the rivals as some sort of self sacrifice makes little sense to me. The story is scattered here and about supposedly for Halloween and distance-learning.
Simply just loses me… and reads like a stir crazy teacher with nothing useful to teach.

This clan type organization sure was a bunch of dumb dumbs. Round these parts, the frog noise is mostly from little bitty tree frogs rather than those big ones afraid of being eaten by alligators or human leg stealers. Saw an alien creature this morning. A mama possum with her belly dragging on the ground. Soon to eject numerous hangers on that will live as long as the dinosaurs. I hope I live long enough to ride em, too.
Your story so far… Looking forward to Part 2, has conveniently brought up about every conspiracy theory out there that I'm sure the Russians are making good use of.

I like this kind of science fiction story that is linked to nature. You're quite imaginative in your description of what is happening to the earth, and plants, in particular. But you leave out a lot of the ecosystem in your descriptions and when you describe the air without humans altering their way of breathing some way, you lose me. It seems to me that plants would be far more tolerant of atmospheric changes than humans, unless we are talking about the ratio of oxygen, carbon dioxide and nitrogen in the air. As long as oxygen remains the way it is, the error would not be toxic humans.
The green glowing meteor should be the source of rejuvenation of the food and flora of the planet. Your hero does not seem to adequately explain the meteor, but certainly reaps the benefits with the bonanza that he found.

I was laughing my head off as I read. I would find myself writing something like this, except I refuse to get as bizarre as you did. In fact, I think you ruined the story by introducing the alien Syrians and space junk at the end. The original part about nutrition and corporate takeover was much more interesting because of the parallels.
I really like the choice of the word scarvy. Our university president, an accountant who was indicted for misuse of funds, but didn't go to trial was named Dr. Slade. And interestingly enough, the conservative governor reaping corporate benefits of Wisconsin is Scott Walker.
I've lived a long time. Food today is cheaper and better for us than it was in the 1950s when we were still an agrarian society. That trend is likely to continue. Unfortunately, the unwashed masses tend toward convenience and thereby eat in restaurants or fast food establishments where they are getting empty calories and eating less nutritious food. But, we all have a choice. I don't believe that eating vegan is the answer. But it's easy to eat right if you make it yourself, and a whole lot less expensive. But there's no way to stop stupidity or people from stupidly following the conservative line on everything, blindly following commercials offering bargains for eating fast food with misleading names.

A real flight of fancy. Full of twisted science, starting with the Love Canal and ending with an aging millennial stepping into another dimension to (finally?) go with the woman in white.
I'm sure there are people that would find this kind of story quite intriguing. My scientific nature finds about as believable as Jules Verne's fire on the moon by sending people in a giant bullet shot from a cannon.

I disagree with Eva. The relationships beginning to be described seem to be quite dysfunctional. And the "sun being turned off" doesn't make a whole lot of sense. If it did happen, death would be immediate and not merciful.
There are three words that need to be corrected where you throw the reader off: off should be of, happen should be happened and "I'd run [into her] around…"

:putting hand over mouth: Another member of the "no dick" club as I am cringing at this one because I had a story where I had a dead guy crucified upside down and his dick was cut off. I am surprised this one made it past the censors because I am holding myself and doubled over on the thought of getting Lorena Bobbitt'd.

Quite an imaginative scenario. One that would fit nicely with my Verge of Apocalypse Tales. I noted the irony and satire as well. The only thing I would change would be to give the man and boy names rather than make them just anonymous. But I'm sure that you chose their anonymity on purpose.
I brought up cloning mammoths and mastodons in my novel, Alone? My scenario was much different. While there were many challenges to the people in the novel, life moved ever forward in these cloned animals were reintroduced into the wild in northern climes around the world to provide better habitat for other animals through their foraging habits. They weren't zoo subjects.

An enjoyable story with a lesson. With all the talk of thinking trees, dragons, fairies and unicorns, I was beginning to think the story was nonsense until the ending when you prove that chasing nonsense is a waste of time.
Unfortunately, your lesson seems to be a prescription to be rather ordinary. For example, be happy cutting wood and marrying your sweetheart. While they fail often, great things come from schemers and dreamers who take on impossible tasks. A good balance would be to be careful which unicorns you chase.
