Very interesting, Dennis. Not enough on the 'inner' essence of our mutual two-wheel sport in print these days. Reading over your bio, I had to chuckle...I was also involved with the military (USAF, ADC/SAC back in the 60s) but never considered myself a warrior as much as a 'medical weenie' (flight surgeon) who preferred surfboarding at China Beach to zooming through the skies looking out for SAMs, LoL. Still, had MCs since my sophomore year in HS and my current machine is a 2000 Kwickasfucki ZX900E-1 (Ninja) in Kawa green paint (quite sexy, so I am told). Although I'm now in my 7th decade of life, I still ride and think I share T.E. Lawrence's mystical (also an unconventional warrior) spiritual affinities for powered two-wheelers. Thanks for sharing your observations on these subjects. I ordered your book ('First to Last') and look forward to a peruse of it. As we used to say, flying double-Mach may have been the MOST fun you could have with your clothes on, but riding rice-burners was second in that hierarchy of 'fun stuff'.

Nothing incessant or rambling here, Dennis. Just 'from the heart & spirit' stuff that deserves a wider audience. As for this Irish-German-Hawaiian, verse runs in the blood, so thanks for illuminating some of your own past history in these lines.

Dennis, I love the meter here. Stuck to the rhyme scheme without stretching it. Gripping tale. Great write.
