I was impressed how the expectations of reality faultered under the real thing and the random, accidental death of the larger than life figure gives the reader something to think about. Same way with the boys friendship, I suppose nothing could be the same after that. I'm no scholar but the story has my vote.

Amazing story. What wonderful characters. And the way all of the events tied together was amazing--not contrived, simply a mirror of life.
