All this talk of preventing evil running the earth can also occur accidentally when a character in a story does not know that the person they are helping is out for bad intent. All the different plots to keep track of concerning Nicolay, Gedeon, Paris and Dayton is certainly a work in intelligence for both the reader and author.
It reminds me of the similar characterizations in Rowan of the Wood, although the plots are very different.
The abused boy Cullen is unaware he is helping an unbelievably ruthless female vampire in 'Rowan of the Wood'. He has enough problems having his body and mind taken over with the history and
thoughts of a 14 centuries-old wizard. In searching for the authors of Rowan of the Wood, Christine and Ethan Rose, I came across your book here.
I like very much that 'A moment before Midnight's author says the book is written by her alter-ego. Very original. I hope to see these books in a local library soon.
