If you like a good pirate, mermaid fantasy, you'll love "The Emerald Lady." I'm a pirate, mermaid fan and I thoroughly enjoyed the book. James L. Hill is a wonderful communicator. His characters are alive and believable and his plot is a page turner. It's a great fantasy, seafaring adventure.

Another wonderful novel by J.L. Hill. "Killer with Three Heads" is an excellent sequel to "Killer with A Heart" with the main character "MoJo," Morris Johnson reappears after an extended absence faking his death. His new name is John Morrison and the kidnapping of his daughter, Maria, is the reason for his return. Catching up with the old characters, such as Nicky Nails, from "Killer with A Heart" was fun and comfortable. "Killer with Three Heads" is not for the squeamish at heart, as the sex scenes are as explicit and graphic as the crime scenes. "MoJo" does things to the extreme just to prove a point and one of his favorite things is blowing things up. The difference between good and bad and bad and worse is difficult to see clearly even when you are looking. It seems sometimes that Morris Johnson kills for sport, but more often than not, he kills for revenge. No one touches him, "Bulletproof" or ones he loves, without paying for it. The descriptive nature of the "crime scenes" and the sexual encounters are raw, crude, and detailed. The reader is glued to their seats as each chapter contains several twists and turns making the novel hard to put down. Along with his search to find and rescue his daughter are numerous interesting sides stories to keep the reader riveted. This book is filled with extreme intrigue, conspiracy, double-dealing, and trickery. MoJo will stop at no ends to find his little girl and bring her home. "Killer with Three Heads" is a spell-bounding book that is worth the read. J.L.Hill has done it again with this sequel..hope there is another one in the works. A definite ten star novel...highly recommend!

What an amazing book! I couldn't put it down, finished it in one sitting. The novel is dark and gritty but very entertaining. Although the novel "Killer With A Heart" has love, sex, drama, violence, crime, mob bosses/families and retaliation, it has a well-written storyline. Our two main characters, Nicky Nails and Mojo - Morris Johnson, who later becomes known as "Bulletproof Johnson," starts a mob war after a small financial heist. The wonderfully detailed plots that Nicky Nails and Mojo come up with are full of drama, intrigue and the most destruction they can possibly inflect on their victims. Most of these plots involve explosions and trickery. Once the mob gets involved, revenge goes back and forth. I would be remiss if I didn't include the fascinating detail that our callus character, Mojo, wasn't as heartless as the acts he performed, thus the title so aptly suggests, our killer has a heart. In numerous scenes, Mojo shows a soft spot even though he has a diabolical mind! His motto in life is that "if they kill one of ours, we kill all of theirs." Therefore, when the love of his life and pregnant "wife" is murdered, Mojo is hell-bent on revenge and the book follows the back and forth plots of revenge between gangs and the mob. "Killer With A Heart" is a fast-paced story that keeps the reader on the edge of their seats. James L. Hill has written a brilliant, riveting novel that no one should pass over. A definite 10!!! Everyone that enjoys a fast-moving book about the dark side of crime and drama should read "Killer With A Heart." This is my first book by James L. Hill, but most definitely not my last. I look forward to a sequel. Highly recommended!

The Emerald Lady by James L. Hill is a fantasy novel that takes us back to the height of piracy, and the beginning of the American Revolution, in the 17-hundreds. The novel opens with Jeremy Simmons, a commercial sailor who is deeply devoted to his fiancee. When his ship is caught in a storm, he is rescued by a mermaid Shera. When it comes to light that the two have fallen, the Maiden Queen (who is also Shera's mother) rips the two apart and stirs the Americas into a war to get her revenge.
This book is crazy-bonkers, and I mean that in the best way possible. When I first picked it up, I thought it would be a fun little adventure with pirates and a mermaid. But Hill has a hell of an imagination, and took the story in directions I never expected and was always delighted by. There's an ancient war between dragons and mermaids, the star-crossed lovers inadvertently cause the Boston Tea Party that sets off the American Revolution, the pirate ship has to fight off the British Navy. There was a lot going on here.
My only complaint is related to that though. This book is less than 300 pages and covers well over 300-years of history. Sometimes I felt like Hill had just pressed the fast-forward button. I wish there had been a little more time spent on developing the characters and letting scenes have an impact on the readers. For example, Jeremy gets his pirate crew together, and then immediately they get caught by the navy and executed, and then he gets another crew together - and this all took less than 20 pages. Sometimes I felt like I was reading a summary more than a novel.
That being said, this book was a lot of fun to read, and at the end of the day, I think that's the most important thing. From the fleshed-out history of the mermaids and the inclusion of real human history, to the action and romance, a lot went into this novel - and I think readers will get a lot out of it.

Fascinating Thriller...With Lots of Sex and Violence - Warning

He had started out in gangs and went on from there... when he defeated a gang, he would pull all that remained alive from that group, under his domain...His gangs were now here, there, and everywhere... At the same time, he got friendly with a Mafia leader and they became close... MOJO had a special charisma with intelligence, drive, and a psychopathic personality, you might say... Although other Mafia leaders weren't necessarily pleased with a close tie to a gang leader...
His latest endeavors were with the blessings of the United State government--he had become a mercenary--hired to get rid of undesirables as defined by a special group who is responding to two corrupt congressmen...
This is one of the most frustratingly intriguing books I have ever read... First, it contains explicit violent and sex scenes that were well beyond what I would normally endure... I almost quit at a certain point, which happened to be a new part...and got more involved with the actual storyline... Finally, I came to think of it as a "man's book" a thriller that is almost a "James Bond" type, except... that MOJO is a criminal...
While MOJO is the central character throughout the novel, it is divided into chapters under a heading: Head of the Family, Head of the Business, and Head of the Government.
And somebody under one of those heads has kidnapped MOJO's daughter!
Morris "MOJO" Johnson, AKA, John Morrison is a main character that gains sympathy by readers, as he discovers his daughter has been kidnapped... Only to murder people in every which way you can think of, including "skinning..." What he lacks in moral character is balanced out by the most exciting thriller scenes that I've seen for awhile. This includes all those gadgets and super-hero stunts that a James Bond will do...and then he takes it a step further and creates a new weapon that everybody wants, and especially the U.S. Government group with which he has acted as a mercenary...
The action makes you think that MOJO is actually the one with the three heads as he moves from place to place creating havoc...and sometimes personal relationships... One of those deals he worked out was for him to take the honeymoon with a former lover of his, just after she married another man...Wow! And then there are all of his other women who work along with him...as well as his wife... Does he love any of them? Can a serial killer love? Certainly he does his daughter! And, the whole story wraps up into a unique, quite extraordinary novel that caught my attention, despite the explicit violence and sex, and held me through to the end--not a surprising one, because by then you know what will be happening... But, dare I say, a very satisfying one, as he eliminated the bad guys, while holding on to his longer-term connections...still alive!
What's the best way for a psychopath to help society? Well, J. L. Hill's MOJO seems to be that vigilante that makes it happen in a thrilling, fast-paced story! It's a great book but only if you accept the explicit sex and violence... I keep my personal negative opinions out of my overall review... So... Check it out! You Decide!

This story started with some interesting true facts about war and technology and slowly wove in the fictitious world of Pegasus. It was obviously sort of far-fetched. (That's okay because it's science fiction.)
The beginning was very, very boring to me. It was like reading some manual on a foreign world in a foreign language. All the things explained I found very confusing. Now the actual "language" in the book was not confusing at all. There was plenty of it in practically every sentence.
It did pick up a little later on. I could almost see it as a Star Trek: Voyager offshoot.
I did not enjoy this book, but maybe you will. It is an interesting read for science fiction lovers.

Congratulations. This is my kind of science fiction, although from the little that I've read, some of the science may be a bit, far-fetched. Making the ship having autonomous AI, gives it the ability to save its incompetent human inhabitants, but all the experiments I've seen in AI always have a human connection with the AI, agreeable or not.
Your introductory chapter reads well and your professional reviews are very good.
I wrote about a similar journey to a star in my second novel, but without the drama of earth being endangered, only the positive, expansive knowledge, that the future will bring. Currently I am serializing my latest novel here on AD. It is a dystopian scenario where a man believes that he is the only survivor on earth, recovering from major man-made total destruction of the ecosystem and most of life.

I hope that Matt and Jackie continue to find ways for us authors to connect with the reading public other than the website.
I would've been there with you if I could travel. But that's become rather impossible for me lately. I've only been able to attend events like that here in Houston.
