The dreaded late night phone call was enough to worry me even before it was answered. Having a father-in-law that was somewhat ailing always made a late night phone call scary. After checking the caller ID I realized that the call was from Chicago.
Of course a call from Chicago was equally as scary because I had two elderly grandmothers that lived there. They both were ninety one years young and also had been under the weather a bit as well.
After answering, I had a pleasant surprise when I said hello. It was my cousin Lisa. I hadn’t spoken with her in nearly 25 years! Lisa was calling to let me know that my grandmother was ill. Lisa stated that my grandmother was attacked in her apartment by a person that she knew from the building. She told me the story of how my granny had to be put in a nursing home, but was dying in there. She eventually moved her into the family home in Chicago. The home was occupied by four generations of Embry women. Great grandmother, mother, grand daughter and great grand daughter. How wonderful that was to hear.
My grandmother was not doing well. Although she was doing better at the family home, she continued to struggle and Lisa was letting me know that her time was limited on this earth. I needed to get down there to see her soon. I knew that I had to see her, but my job was very demanding and time consuming. I never imagined how soon her life would be over.
After ninety one years, my granny passed away on May 26, 2008. Oh, you think the saga began at that point? My other grandmother had taken ill and she passed three weeks prior to that. That is where all of the drama began and the dark family secrets began to slowly seep out.

THIS IS AN AWESOME READ! I have removed the remainder of the chapter because the book is near completion and it is beginning to attract somewhat of a following. I surmise that now, the only thing that is left to do is to finish and publish MY story!
Names and locations will be changed out of respect to my relatives that are still alive, although being embarrassed would not bother me one bit. I truly believe that this is an awesome story about two amazing women.
To my Aunt and she knows who she is...THANK YOU!!! You are an amazing woman and I can honestly say that because of you, my father held his family close. My dad loved you as a mom and his favorite aunt! For that alone...I love me some you and would never do anything to cause you any heartache or embarrassment! You, moreso than anyone else, was my fathers rock and his main support...along with his favorite cousins, San and Arnice!
