Summer  time always seems to pass by so fast!  Truly time flies by when your having fun.  I must  admit that working with the young adults at the Detroit Impact center was truly one of my most enjoyable times of 2010.

Utilizing my first book, The Everday Living of Children and Teens Monologues along with a socialization skills curriculum I created to compliment it, I along with the young adults twice a week for two hours had the opportunity to dialogue on some very serious issues young people deal with today.  No more than ever our young people have to deal with adults issues too early in their lives. 

During this six week interval, we as a  group became more comfortable with one another.  Youngsters that did not have much to say in the begining of the socialization skills classes had a lot to say and state by the last week. Even young men opened up about issues and concerns  they would rarely talk about. 

What I learned from this experience overall was that our youngsters need someone to simply hear them out and listen to what they have to say. Once they know and feel in their hearts that adults can be trusted, they will let you in their world's and will let you know exactly how their coping and surviving in the 21st. century.
