How do dispose of garbage
Jimmy came out of the shop carrying a pack of cigarettes. He went to the boot of his car, heaved out his load of waste and dragged it over to the AWM. Recessed in the wall, at about waist height, was a small console with a credit card slot. Just below it, the large rubbish chute panel was twisted. Jimmy had to heave hard to pull it open. To save time his wife had sorted through the rubbish. He picked up the pile of waste paper and shoved it through the opening in the AWM. It rapidly displayed several messages: % Recyclable : 86.04 Quality : good Value : A$ 15 Jimmy brightened as he saw the display and happily loaded the other piles of garbage into the machine. Then he said ‘finished’ to the machine. Total % recyclable : 82.96 Total quality : medium Total value : A$ 35.4 Cash or credit? Jimmy answered as he usually did "Credit, please" and at the prompt inserted his card. He checked the display on the card when it was returned to him. "Seems a bit short," he muttered, "probably Sibyl has been shopping today." However, he asked for a receipt anyway. The machines weren't all that reliable anymore. He leant against the wall to regain his breath for a while. When he had recovered he felt around in his pocket and retrieved the pack of cigarettes. Opening the plastic box, he pulled one out after a small struggle. "Why do they always pack them so tight?" he mumbled sadly as he lit up. Exhaling, he glanced at the AWM then looked down at the cigarettes. On an impulse he pulled out another and chucked it into the AWM chute. % Recyclable : 24.55 Quality : mediocre Value : 5 cents Jimmy turned around grinning and headed home.

When I wrote ths book in 2000, I was concerned about children having access to the Internet and to chat rooms where "you can be anyone you want." Here we are many years later and the situation with children talking freely to stangers on the Internet
