I wrote this back in 2000, shortly after my grandma had surgery and they found more cancer. It brought back a lot of memories of when my grandpa was in the hospital because of leukemia...
The gray clouds hovered over the trees, making the gloom seem fierce. I waited to hear some kind of news, any news, that you were safely out of surgery. I watched the clock impatiently, wanting to know how you were feeling. I wished I could offer you the support I knew you needed. My mind was with you, hoping and praying that things would be fine. Now that we know what you are facing, there are some things I want you to know.
I pray that you feel God's presence as he carries you through this unwelcome journey that has shattered your sense of well being. When you are feleing alone, lift your eyes to the heavens and know that He is there. He will keep your soul safe if you trust in Him. I will help you in any way that I can.
I will be at your side to help you fight the demons that will haunt you. When you need a shoulder to cry on, remember I have one reserved for you. When you need to laugh at your situation, allow me the pleasure of sharing this with you. When you need to be alone, I will understand and I will not pressure you to share more than you are willing. I will listen when you need someone to talk to, and talk when you need to hear a voice.
We have a long journey ahead of us and you will have to summon all of your courage and strength to fight this. I will give you mine if you need it. There will be days when you will wonder if you can make it through. Other days will leave you wondering if you want to. I won't tell you I know how you feel because I haven't been in your situation. What I will tell you is that whatever you are feeling is natural. You don't have to prove to me that you are strong because I already know. When you feel like crying, let your tears flow. If you need to scream, make it loud enough for everyone to hear. I will not judge you, for you will need some kind of release for your feelings.
In our lives, we have many lessons to learn. God truly does not give us a burden that we can not carry and in time, your life lessons will be revealed. What you need to know right now is that you are a beautiful person and nothing can ever change that. You are loved for the special person that you are. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
