This week, Studio Reader Stan meets with Sami Ginzle, a fast food restaurant owner turned movie producer.
In a very plush restaurant, Studio Reader Stan sits at a table with producer Sami Ginzle.
Sami Ginzle: Studio Reader Stan, I’ve got a little dilemma and Gold over at Quality said you were the guy to go to.
Studio Reader Stan: Really? He recommended me?
Sami Ginzle: Not exactly. I won you in a poker game, which is great because I won’t have to pay you.
Studio Reader Stan: So, Mr. Gold’s going to pay me?
Sami Ginzle: Of course not. Gambling for money is illegal.
Studio Reader Stan: So no one’s going to pay me?
Sami Ginzle. Exactly. Doesn’t it feel great to abide by the law? Anyway, here’s my dilemma. I’m one of the producers on this British period piece with Judi Dench. But I’m looking to be the kind of producer who can bring in the teenagers. And the other producers won’t listen to my ideas.
Studio Reader Stan: Shocking.
Sami Ginzle: It is, isn’t it? So, all I need you to do is write up some coverage agreeing wholeheartedly with me.
Studio Reader Stan: I sure like where this is heading.
Sami Ginzle: Here’s my idea. Right now, the flick’s about this matronly school marm who dies of Tuberculosis. But, I’m thinkin’, instead of her dying like that, an alien should come down and just completely bite her head off… That’s the kind of thing that’ll really pack the kids in.
Studio Reader Stan: You want an alien to come down and eat Dame Judi Dench’s head off?
Sami Ginzle: Yes! Finally, someone else shares my vision!
Studio Reader Stan: I wouldn’t use the word ‘Shares.’ I’d go more with ‘Horrified by,’ ‘Disgusted by,’ ‘Depressed by.’
Sami Ginzle: Studio Reader Stan, do you know what happens to people who don’t share my vision?
Studio Reader Stan: They win awards for their movies?
Sami Ginzle: No, their lives become miserable.
Studio Reader Stan: My life’s already miserable.
Sami Ginzle: Oh, that won’t work then. What I need to find is a studio reader who’s happy and self-fulfilled.
Studio Reader Stan: Yeah, good luck with that.
The check arrives. Sami runs out, stiffing Studio Reader Stan with the bill.
