This week, Studio Reader Stan has another frustrating encounter with his literary agent.
Studio Reader Stan somehow gets his agent, Mischa Broom, on the phone.
Mischa Broom: Studio Reader Stan, I’ve got a lot of exciting things happening at the agency.
Studio Reader Stan: That’s great. Anything involving me?
Mischa Broom: Let me call you right back.
Studio Reader Stan: Okay.
They hang up. Studio Reader Stan waits... Ten minutes go by... Twenty... Thirty... Forty... Forty five minutes later, Studio Reader Stan calls back. He gets voice mail.
Studio Reader Stan: (leaves message) Yeah, Mischa, you said you’d call me right back, so I’m right here waiting.
He hangs up and waits... Ten minutes go by... Twenty... Thirty... Half a day... The whole day... The next day, Studio Reader Stan calls again. Mischa answers.
Mischa Broom: Mischa speaking.
Studio Reader Stan: Uh, yeah, it’s me, Mischa.
Mischa Broom: Hey, Studio Reader Stan, let me call you right back.
Studio Reader Stan: Wait! You said that yesterday and never called back.
Mischa Broom: Well, I called you now.
Studio Reader Stan: No, I called you.
Mischa Broom: Oh.
Studio Reader Stan: I’m curious, do the words “I’ll call you right back” have some other meaning that I’m not aware of?
Mischa Broom: Hey, there’s a million things going on here. I’ve expanded the agency. I now represent clowns and monkeys.
Studio Reader Stan: Does that mean you’ll spend even less time cultivating my career?
Mischa Broom: Yes. Unless you want to work with a monkey.
Studio Reader Stan: Gee, every screenwriter’s dream. Do you have any other exciting news that won’t help me even a little bit?
Mischa Broom: Let me call you right back.
She hangs up.
