Studio Reader Stan meets again with Mr. Gold of Quality Studios.
Studio Reader Stan sits across from Mr. Gold in his office at Quality Studios.
Mr. Gold: It’s been a tough year, Studio Reader Stan. I didn’t expect it.
Studio Reader Stan: You put all of your chips on a movie written by and starring Rome Marriott.
Mr. Gold: I know. How could it have not worked?
Studio Reader Stan: Her only credential was being a vapid socialite.
Mr. Gold: I know. How could it have not worked?
Studio Reader Stan: That is a puzzler.
Mr. Gold: Anyway, our next movie is going to be a western. We’ve got a great story, a great director and great actors – but I don’t want to rest on that. It needs something else.
Studio Reader Stan: Sir, I would strongly suggest leaving it alone. Why mess up a good thing?
Mr. Gold: Nonsense. It can always be better. And thanks to my eight year old, I have just the thing.
Studio Reader Stan: Your eight year old?
Mr. Gold: Yeah. He did this science experiment at school involving worms. I had no idea how fascinating they were?
Studio Reader Stan: Worms?
Mr. Gold: Absolutely. So here’s my thought. We put a giant worm somewhere in the movie.
Studio Reader Stan: In your western?
Mr. Gold: Yeah, something that fascinating has to be in this film. So I’ll need you to write some coverage saying the script is very good, but if there were a giant worm in it, it’d be perfect. Then I’ll use that to justify forcing the director to do it.
Studio Reader Stan: I’m glad you think my coverage has that much clout.
Mr. Gold: Oh, I don’t. I’m forcing twenty other readers to say the same thing. Sometimes you have to be a little crafty to get your way.
Studio Reader Stan: What happens if, or more precisely when, it’s ridiculed as one of the most brainless things ever put on film?
Mr. Gold: Well, because of all the coverage, I’ll be just fine. You, however, may not work for a while. But that’s a risk I’m willing to let you take.
Tune in next week for more of Studio Reader Stan's adventures...
