This week, Studio Reader Stan has his tranquility interrupted by Marvin, the wannabe producer.
Studio Reader Stan sits in the coffee shop when Marvin walks in with a stack full of envelopes.
Marvin: Hey Studio Reader Stan, long day. I have to actually go through this whole stack of resumes and I really don’t want to.
Studio Reader Stan: You’re hiring someone?
Marvin: Yep. An intern. That way I don’t have to pay them.
Studio Reader Stan: But you don’t do anything.
Marvin: I’m a film producer. I do have a credit, you know.
Studio Reader Stan: You won it in a drinking game. And then, if memory serves me, you somehow blew any chance of parlaying it into another producing opportunity.
Marvin: The filmmakers and I had creative differences.
Studio Reader Stan: You wanted to sleep most of the day, and they preferred actually working most of the day.
Marvin: Which is why I need an intern for next time. While I sleep, they’ll work.
Studio Reader Stan: Doing what exactly?
Marvin: Representing me at all times.
Studio Reader Stan: But no one expects anything from you. In fact, I’m willing to bet if anyone lost another drinking game to you, they’d prefer you again never assisted in any way.
Marvin: Then that’ll leave plenty of time for helping me on my side projects.
Studio Reader Stan: Which are?
Marvin: Doing my laundry. It’s really piling up. That’s why I really need to hire someone quick.
Studio Reader Stan: I see. Well, I’m sure all those starry-eyed applicants can’t wait to be the lucky chosen one.
Marvin: I agree. Which is where you come in.
Studio Reader Stan: You’re not going to ask me to go through the resumes of those poor souls, are you?
Marvin: No, I want you to apply. Most of your shirts never appear to have stains on them, so you seem to know what you’re doing... Can you start right now?
