A man walked into a Library, asking, “What is truth?” The Librarian was nonplused by such a simpleton question, replied, “There are millions of separate truths! Every book in this huge Library contains it’s own truth.” The man then asked, “But how do you determine your own truth?” The Librarian was irritated in admission her books could not answer such a question, with no reference on which to call.
The man then called at a Lawyer’s office, again asking what was truth. The Lawyer had a ready answer, “There is no actual truth, only excuses sculpted to meet the occasion of use.” The man could not find value in such an answer.
He entered a Doctor’s office, and repeated his question. The Doctor was impatient, “Why ask Me such a thing! I cure illness. Truth is only the preservation of life.” The man contemplated this answer as he left the Doctor’s office, but thought he should check with another expert in the area.
He entered the funeral home and asked the Mortician if Truth was the preservation of life. The Mortician laughed at the man, saying, “The only Truth is Death, as it is the only reality into which All fall.”
The man left disheartened, and went to a Bar; thinking to get drunk. He told the Bartender of his quest, and the confusion incurred by the answers. The Bartender laughed, “None of those Individuals understand what is truth, all because they are Sober. The World was created by a Drunk, and it shows it’s imbecilic nature to those who sober up. Truth is the escape from sobriety, which is knowledge of Our own lack of purpose.” The man studied on all the answers through a half–dozen drinks, then left.
He was walking home when the revelation struck him, he knew the answer to his own question; without any information from Others. Truth was they were not Home, and nothing would make sense; as long as they traveled strange routes. He was suddenly disturbed. He had forgot the way home!
Interesting and insightful look into truth, Lawrance. Truth is, there is no easy answer. Truth to one is yet another truth to many. Each finds their own truths on their journey. Very well done and a pleasure to read.
