A long time ago in a land called Shadow
Darkness reigned and there was no leaf or flower
the land was desolate
the people sullen
there was no joy
Then one day
Spring arrived
A Princess whose face shined like the sun
Riding a steed named Hope
came forth changing the land
But Darkness was not so easily overcome
For even though she was full of love
She let no one inside her heart
to win her affection
so a spell was cast
and she was frozen by the darkness
In a village close by
a poor craftsman sat upon a hill
Full of dreams
but without inspiration
a stream that does not flow
News traveled
and he heard the tale
as the princess was described
something sparked inside
He traveled to see the Sayer
to seek some advice
Hearing the story of the princess
the Sayer said
“Only a force more powerful than the darkness can break the spell”
“But I am no warrior, I am no King” said the craftsman
and the Sayer replied
“Even the smallest creatures can be mighty in their hearts, search yours
and you will find your answer”
So the craftsman went home puzzling at the Sayers advice
Then one night, inspiration overtook him
and with all his skill
and all of his heart
he built the most wondrous thing he could think of
He traveled to the land of Shadow where the princess stood frozen
and lay the gift by her feet and said
“I made this for you”
It was a circle of horses
dancing up and down
music was playing
it was like a merry-go-round
“I call it Carousel”
The music pierced the Princesses heart
as she marveled at the simple craftsman
and the gift he had brought
tears fell from her eyes
and melted the ice until she was free
As the two embraced, darkness fled the land
Now the land is called Carousel
and those who live there are the happiest people anywhere
