What about the darn stone in the photo?
OK, this is not so much a short story as an explanation. I receive a lot of e-mail queries about the stone that I'm sitting on in some of the photographs that pertain to my books. The rock that I'm perched on is the top of a huge erratic left by the last glacial period that covered my part of Southern Ontario ions ago. - well, make that at least ten thousand years ago It is composed of blue heathern granite and is known locally as "The Auld Kissing Stane" - can't you tell that the town I live in was founded by Scots? A local custom lurks about that it's considered good luck to sit on the stone/stane so that's where I've chosen to have a number of photographs taken over the year. I'm never sure about my good luck end of the custom but this stone/stane is where my mother accepted her engagement ring many, many years ago which places the chunk of granite very near and dear to my heart.
