One evening I went with the EMT's on a call to a house in the country. When we arrived we found that an elderly gentleman had expired at his daughters house. We picked him up and were to transport him to the hospital to be pronounced.
However, this night the doctors from our town were at a hospital in another town nine miles away attending a monthly medical meeting. We were instructed to bring the body down there to their ER to be pronounced and the funeral home would pick him up from there.
As we pulled up to the dock and proceeded to unload the body, the hospital security guard was there, and noticing the sheet pulled over the mans face said, "DOA?"
My retort was, "No thanks, we already have one."
The guard looked somewhat puzzled, but one of the EMT's started laughing so hard he almost dropped the litter.
This was over twenty years ago, but to this day whenever I see this EMT, who is now a Physicians Assistant,
He starts laughing and says, "DOA?"
I would had pay a lot to see the ambulance personel transporting some DOA to the Miami morgue when from under the white sheet came a "what the hell!!" and two arms came out fighting the fabric.
Underwears smell funny that night.
