Since our childhood we have known our parents' religion and no one dared have any doubts about the truth of what our elders preached to us. May we be Christians, Jews, Muslims or Buddhists, that doesn't change anything to this fact. Is there anything more precious than our love for our parents? This is one of the reasons why nobody challenges the truth that we received from our parents and from our elders.
Each one of these religions is designated by a name. In the beginning this name seemed sacred to us, but in reality, it is irrelevant in which religion everyone believes, and it does not matter by what name they call it, the essential fact is that this religion respects the human being and the most sacred that he or she carries within himself or herself, without any conditions.
We are having experiences which make us discover life with all its colors and its feelings, which will slowly become a language for us. This is the reason why we should pray God in our heart and only in our heart we can feel him, not thru our parents nor thru our ancestors . It is only then that we will find the real name of our faith that is in ourselves and that one discovers slowly, slowly during the journey of one's life.
How wise your thoughts are, Emile! Getting the basics of religion, our foundation, helps us down the paths of life. I often question the "building stones", but never the strength of my foundation, which IS in my heart. Great article/story.

Ooops. Not Latin but French. I'm so glad you translated. I have always told my daughters, "Your faith is not your own until it is challenged." Well, then they grew up and proved it to me! They challenged most of the values I taught them as children and changed the "rules" on how they related to God. Now, I hear them talk about what they think, what they belive, and I know that their faith is genuine. It has been tested by peers, experiences, and doubt and come through like gold.
You are right...I believe it was Emerson who said, "Nothing is at last sacred, but the integrity of your own mind." In the end, we all have to stand on our own to feet and not lean on what someone else believes to get us where we want to go.
We, in the Christian faith call this a "crisis of faith" when we begin to challenge why we believe what our parents believe and over time choose for ourselves what we ourselves believe. Definitely a good thing.Thank you for this write. Most enjoyed. Hugs, J'nia
