The Screenplay
Time: 9:00 a.m.
Location: Sales Department of the Wang’s group
*** Derek Jiang walks in with a big smile on his face. He is in good spirits as he begins a new phase of his career. He is there to replace the former director, Clarington. He’s walking towards his new office ***
*** He sits in his high-backed leather chair, gives himself a satisfying smile ***
*** Former director’s secretary walks in, greets Derek with a good morning, and offers him a cup of coffee. Then she rudely points to the file folders on his desk and talks as though she has authority over him ***
Secretary Shen: “Listen, these are very important clients. They are very important projects. If you don’t understand anything, ask me. I will explain them to you.”
*** Derek gives Shen a sideways glance, disgusted with her attitude. She is disrespectful to him. He took a sip of the coffee, and immediately he spat it out because it tasted so bad ***
Secretary Shen: “Hahaha!!! Derek, you’ve been pranked!”
*** Shen laughs as she speaks ***
*** Derek has had enough of this woman’s nonsense; he immediately stands up over her ***
Derek: “How dare you prank me! Do you think I’m still the young boy working in the office who lets you put gum on my chair?”
*** Derek leads her to the door, points to the sign on the door ***
Derek: “See this sign… it says Director, Derek Jiang. Now, make me another cup of coffee. If you can’t even make a cup of good coffee, then go to H.R. to resign!”
*** Outside, employees appear “shocked” as they watch Secretary Shen come out of the office with a big frown on her face ***
Secretary Shen: “No fun, he has no sense of humor.”
Thanks, Ron!!! Derek is actually developing a plan to flex his muscles with each employee. They've got it coming. But Derek will do this within the law. He will not do anything against the law. He will only keep those employees who show him loyalty and respect.
Let me tell you a little bit of history about Derek. He didn't join the Wang group without experience. Before joining the Wang group, he was working for the manufacturing department of a construction company; he had years of experience in the purchasing and sales of raw materials. That was how he was recruited by the Sales Dept. But because of his age, the staff would often play tricks and jokes on him.
One day, he was coerced by the staff to meet a blind date. He took it as another joke. No one knew that the blind date was supposed to be his boss, Miss Yaya Wang. Yaya's dad was dying. On his deathbed, he urged Yaya to find a suitor to get married so he could rest in peace. Yaya posted an anonymous post in the newspaper to search for a suitor. When Derek walked in, she immediately recognized him as one of her employees. They made a contract for the flash marriage to please her dad. They both agreed to keep their marriage a secret and not let the office staff know. So Derek is still playing the innocent office employee. Unfortunately, the office staff has been very unkind to him.
It works much better this way with you doing the narrative and the transitions to each new scene are quite smooth as well as the actors very attractive and professional looking.
But the twist in the story bothered me because it seemed so cruel. But I think you will, in future episodes as he learns how to behave in high level, highly competitive business where pranks are sometimes used to diffuse unnatural tension.
I prefer a simple icebreaker party for the new boss.
