Windy Thundercloud, the woman who lost her legs after being run over a train last year, is now in a rehab facility, where she is now walking with the aid of crutches and prosthetic legs. She is about to be released from the hospital and will soon go back home to Oklahoma.
I guess I should be happy, but I don't know, really. I have been having a devil of a time trying to get used to my new "legs" and getting used to standing and now walking again. I am walking on crutches and my "new legs", but it is weird because even though I KNOW they are not there, I still feel as though they ARE, and I still have PAIN!! The pain has gotten a lot less now, but I still have it, and if I overdo, they REALLY let me know, and then I have to stop and rest before I throw up from the pain!
This is Windy Thundercloud. I have been here in Nashville since late fall of last year, when I accidentally fell down a hill onto some railroad tracks--just as a train was crossing the tracks. As a result, I got run over by the train, and I lost my legs in the accident. I am now a double amputee, and it has been an awfully big and difficult adjustment for me, not only for me, per se, but also to my family back in Oklahoma. They haven't seen me much since the train accident, and I really don't know how they are going to react when they see me without my legs, or with my prosthetic legs when I have them on.
The doctors and nurses (and also the therapists) have been instrumental in getting me whipped back into shape and to the point where I am presently, but I still have an awful lot of adjustment to do, and I am worried about my job when I get back. I don't know if I have been fired, or what, and I am really worried about what my boss may think once he sees me again. I am sure he has probably replaced me or forgotten all about me by now, and now I am going to have to start looking for another job; but I am afraid that nobody will hire me because I am now disabled and will always be until I die and leave this world.
I love Tennessee, but I miss Oklahoma. To me Oklahoma is HOME, even with all its flatness, its wild weather, or Native American culture. I miss the people of Oklahoma, and I miss the beauty of my state and all that it has to offer. Tennessee IS nice, but it is too hilly for my liking, and it is TOO cold in the winter! I about froze my BUTT off here in Nashville, especially when they had their snows! They had a few good snows, including a blizzard that dumped three feet of snow; and of course, I couldn't go anywhere: I was stuck at the rehab hospital! It's not like I didn't have ANYTHING planned or ANYWHERE to go....But it WAS exciting watching the snow flying outside my window and watching the snow pile up and watching the cars slippin' and slidin' on the slick, snow-covered streets! I saw more accidents those days the blizzard went on....It was RATHER interesting, to say the very least!!
Well, I know this isn't long, but I have to go back to the P.T. department, for more therapy. Hunh! That is all I HAVE been doing...sleeping OR going to THERAPY!! Right now I am so SICK of therapy I can just SPIT! I will write more later...and HOPEFULLY from OKLAHOMA the next time I write! I miss Oklahoma!!
