Louisiana, just home from work, writes to her new daughter-to-be, Janica Kryzstina, who is in Romania, getting ready to come to America, to join the Sandusky family.

Dearest Janica Kryzstina~
Hello! This is your mamma in America writing! I am so sorry for not writing to you sooner, but mamma has been very sad lately. Maybe one day I will tell you why I am sad, but right now, I don't want to make you worry.
I thank you for your beautiful, heartwarming letter! I am happy to know that you are learning English; I am afraid that I do not know much Romanian. I DO know a few words in Russian and in Bosnian/Croatian, but that is the closest language to Romanian that I know..and it is NOT much. You will have a sister from Bosnia-Hergozovina (Danita) and a little brother from Russia (Sergei) when you come, so maybe they can help you if you get stuck with a particular word. You will find many kids in your new family, but they are all eager to please, and they are all very excited at your coming next month! You will have lots of brothers and sisters to play with, and you will never feel lonesome or scared ever again!
Janica, you don't know how happy you are coming! Bill (your daddy) and myself have been counting the days to when you wlil finally come to join our family, and now that this day is almost here, we can't help but to cry with joy and excitement! We are looking forward to becoming your new daddy and mommy, and we can't wait for you to become our newest daughter! We are going to take very good care of you, and when you are sick, we will see to it that we get you to the doctor, so he can help you feel better! I also happen to be a nurse, so if you hurt yourself or become sick in any way, I can then take care of you!
You will also see many animals here: cats, dogs, horses (they are outside), birds, and even rabbits, hamsters and gerbils, amongst other creatures. We love animals, and we hope that you do, too. Maybe even after you have been here with us a while, we can get you a pet of your own if that is what you so desire. Anything you need or want, we will do our best to get it for you!
You will be starting the first grade when you go to school; that way, the teachers can help you with your English and your learning to read and write. We want you to start off on the right foot, so this is why we are doing this. We want you to get used to going to a new school in a new country, and while it WILL be scary at first, pretty soon, you will soon have many friends, and you will soon find learning to be easier! If you have trouble, we will be more than happy to help you!
Well, honey, we will go for now. I have to lie down; mamma is getting sleepy because she is sick, but I hope to be feeling better soon. Yes, even nurses get sick, believe it or not! I can't wait to see you, Janica, and we are praying that you have a safe journey here to America! We are looking forward to getting to know you, and we can't wait for you to join our family!
